I woke up and rolled over to grab my phone from the bedside table. Cara has left me sixteen missed calls and 100 messages asking if I was okay. Shit.
Scattering out of bed, carful not to wake Colton, I picked up his shirt and his boxers because for some reason my clothes have disappeared. I roll my eyes in annoyance, but smile as I recall the events of last night. "Focus Brook" I scold myself as I get distracted. I tip toe out of the bedroom and call Cara from the living room. She picks up on the first ring.
"WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?" Okay...so she's a little mad. "Hey Cara..."
"Don't you hey Cara me! Do you have any idea how worried I've been? Why haven't you answered me? Are you okay? Can you not pick up a damn phone? I've been going out of my god damn mind! And now I'm on a god damn plane, on my way over to you in heels with no clothes packed because I've been freaking the fuck out!" I rub my tired eyes whilst she blasts through the phone. "I'm okay Cara. Really. I just lost track of time- wait did you say plane?"
"Yes! I'm landing in half an hour. And your ass best be home because I'm tired as hell" she warned. "Actually..." was I really going to tell her I was busy having sex? "Actually what?" I could feel her eyes narrowing over the phone. "So I'm at Coltons right now" I burst out.No reply. Nothing. Just pure deadly silence. "Hello?" I ask, worried that she's either fainted or made the plane crash from one of her tantrums. "You're going to tell me everything. In excruciating detail. I will call you when I land." With that, she put the phone down and left me laughing quietly in the darkness of the living room.
"Everything good over here?" I look up to see a tired Colton rubbing his eyes, looking for the light switch. "Yeah, everything's good. My friend is on her way over actually." He points to the floor and raises his eyebrows. "No, not here" I wave away the worry on his face. "She's going to my address. She's the only one I gave it to. I've got to get home. She's going to be there soon" I walk past him to the bedroom and begin looking for my clothes. When I can't find them, I turn to Colton holding my clothes in his hands. I give him a questionable look, wondering where they were, but don't bother asking because I'm in a rush.
Quickly throwing my clothes over my head, I pick up my shoes and open the door. Colton shuts it and holds me captive by the door. "Are you coming back?" He asks, hand caressing my cheek. "Yes, don't worry. I'll be back later in the day. Probably with her. I love you" I kiss him passionately before he steps back, letting me leave. It's only now do I realise I don't have my damn car with me.
By the time I get to my front door, Cara's cab pulls up. "Did you... did you run here?" She looks at me as I'm panting for air. "Left... car...no time...had to get...to see you...my god..." I can't even put together a sentence. She laughs, running up to me to give me a hug so tight, whatever air I had left completely left me. "Do you have any idea how stressed I've been?" She slaps my shoulder, serious for a moment, before pulling me back in for another hug.
Opening the door, I collapse on the couch, pillows falling off. "So...how was he?" Cara asks, grin wide and eager for the juicy details. "I hold up my hands around nine inches apart, slamming my head into a pillow beneath me. "OH MY GOD!" She screeches, over excited for me.
'How's everything going with the friend, doll?' Colton texts me. I smile and reply:
'Well I'm still alive, so that's good'
'Good to hear. Will I be seeing you later?'
I look up to see Cara helping me put my books in alphabetical order on the walnut shelves.
'Definitely ;)'"So...Cara, would you like to meet him?" She stops putting books on the shelf and turns in slow motion, mouth open. "The guy who's turned my best friend into a badass? Yes sir!" She drops the books in her arms and runs to my wardrobe. "I need to borrow clothes because someone" she narrows her eyes at me "made me jump on a plane at four in the morning. And you honey, need a shower" she points at my sweaty clothes. "Agreed" I reply, racing to the bathroom, leaving her to pick out some clothes.
