The next few days go by pretty smoothly, and not much more is said about the Hogsmead trip, at least not until Peter brings it up to Sirius during their free period. "I know it'll be just the two of us, but we could still do some kind of prank. Not to mention the fact we can be lonely and single together. Maybe we could even come up with a plan to get girls to like us," he says enthusiastically. Sirius thinks for a second. He hadn't told Peter yet, that he wasn't going to Hogsmead, but felt like now would be the best time too. "Well there are a few things wrong with what you just said mate. First of all, I don't need to try to get a girl to like me. Plenty already do and I simply don't care for any of them. Secondly, I promised Remus I'd help him get caught up on his work. So it's seems like you will have to be lonely and single on your own," Sirius says, not trying to sound suspicious. Peter sighs as a response. He's perfectly fine with his friends off doing their own things, but is still somewhat disappointed. "I understand mate," he says. Peter knew there was no point in pressing the subject any further and besides, he knew it wasn't Remus' fault that he had work to catch up on and figured it would be best if he had help. Peter offered to stay and help as well, and Sirius said they would be fine.
Later that day, when James and Sirius were out in the grounds talking by themselves, Sirius explained to him that he would be staying with Remus instead of going to Hogsmead. "You know you don't have to, right? He's obviously smarter than you, and you probably wouldn't be much help," James said. Sirius knew what he said was true, and he wasn't actually wanting to stay with Remus to help him study. He wasn't really sure how to tell James this, but James was his best friend, he would probably understand. "James, if I tell you this you have to promise not to say anything about it to anyone, and I mean anyone" Sirius says. Without hesitation James says, "Of course mate, I won't tell anyone as long as I doubt need to,". Sirius knew that this would be the best answer he would get, so he first looked around to make sure no one was close enough to hear them. Then he took a deep breath in and quickly said, "I think I might have a problem, and that problem being I think I'm in love with Remus. I was wanting to tell him Saturday when everyone is at Hogsmead, but the more I think about it the worse the idea seems. What do you think I should do?". James looks pretty surprised, and Sirius starts to worry. Why did I tell him that? He thinks. A few minutes of silence pass before James says, "Well, if you can't tell it took me five years just to convince the girl I like to go out on a date with me, so I have no idea why you would come to me for advice. Since you did though, I'd say your best bet is just telling him. Remus is occasionally understanding, and if he doesn't feel the same he's probably let you down easy. What I don't understand, besides the fact that you came to me out of all people for crush advice, is why exactly do you think it would be a bad idea? Who knows, he might feel the same,". Sirius frowns as he says, "I really don't think he'd feel the same, for a number of reasons. First of all, I'm extremely reckless and often get on his nerves on accident. Second of all he's an amazing person, and probably deserves better than me. Lastly, I doubt he fancies guys,". James thinks for a minute before saying, "How have I not realised you we're gay before now? It makes a lot of sense though. Probably the reason why you've never really been interested in any of the girls that have asked you out. Not to mention -" "That's besides the point, now back to one of my many current problems, how do I tell Remus I like him without ruining are friendship forever?" Sirius interrupts. James rolls his eyes and says, "Your being dramatic. Even if he doesn't feel the same, I doubt he'll stop talking to you forever. Like I said before, just tell him how you feel,". Sirius sighs and says, "You told Lily how you felt, and she hated you afterwards. I'm not going to bother telling him,". James decided it was best not to argue, and left it at that.
