❝ Then don't give me more memories... ❞

Year 2004, 2nd Grade
"What do you think about him?" One of my classmates asked, pointing at a new student that just came in. He was quite short, but not shorter compared to the other boys of our class. He had such a fair complexion, you could tell that he's the type to go from home to school and vice versa only. Even his cheeks flushed red with just a little warmth from the sunlight that entered through the opened window of our room.
"Will you please stop staring?" He asked, turning his head to meet my gaze. For a moment, I felt taken aback at the sight of his sharp eyes which stabbed daggers into mine. "S-sorry..." I replied with an apologetic smile before averting my gaze to look at the classmate I was conversing with awhile ago.
"He looks like a steamed bun..." I mumbled, tilting my head down to cover my face up with my hair. "You and your love for food." She laughed softly before standing up to approach the boy.

I've never been a huge fan of first days because above everything that happens to school, I hate having to come upfront to introduce myself. But maybe that's just me?
Shameless, fearless, and confident... I guess opposites do attract at some point— I've only met him today, but the way he confidently stood up from his seat to introduce himself got me convinced that Mr. Steamed Bun is much more charismatic than how he appears to be.
"Hello! I'm my old school's puppy-cat, Moon Bin!"
Puppy-cat? He does have both resemblances on him. His nearly unreadable gaze reminds me of a cat quietly examining you while his cheery personality reminds me of a pup, impatiently waiting for playtime. Most especially when he grins and his upper lip disappears while forming a perfect crescent along with his eyes.
'Steamed bun... Y/N, he's a steamed bun!'
"Hey, it's your turn to introduce." One of my classmates nudged me back to reality, a look of second-hand embarrassment showing on her features. "S-sorry..." I stuttered, quickly bowing before fast-walking towards the front. They were laughing again... Why do I always have to be put in these situations?
With a short inhale of air, I quietly sighed and stood straight like how that kid, Moon Bin, did on his introduction.
"Hello... I'm Y/N L/N..." I quietly mumbled, sending my homeroom teacher a pleading gaze to let me go back to my seat. "Sorry, what? I didn't hear you..." Moon Bin called out, raising his hand which caught the attention of my classmates and a few laughter were heard once again.
"I said, I'm Y/N L/N!" I repeated, raising my voice a little which sounded more like a squeak. Red with embarrassment, I tilted my head down and ran back to my seat.
"Who is the bun now?" He turned around from his seat which was in front of mine and he flashed me his boyish smile. Burning even brighter red at the realization that he heard, I sank down my seat.
Lunch time came around quickly and I was the first to arrive at the cafeteria. I usually ate alone so I made it a habit to come in earlier than the others so that I could secure a table for myself. On days when I am late though, I simply skip lunch.
"Can we sit here?" Moon Bin suddenly appeared pulling another boy over. "If you're okay with that..." I mumbled, subtly biting on my lower lip. "She does speak softly." The other boy pointed out before pulling one of the chairs to sit. "She does." Moon Bin agreed and took the seat beside me.
"Y/N, this is Dongmin." Moon Bin introduced as he pointed at the other boy. He was slightly taller than Moon Bin but just like my classmate, he also looks like the type to stay at home after school hours. Both of them seriously look like their both born with silver spoons. The only other difference I found between the two was the way Dongmin had a more delicate feature compared to Moon Bin.
He had longer lashes, a friendly pair of eyes, a perfectly sculpted nose and a pair of lips that are neither too big or too small for his face. My cheeks immediately burned at the sight of him staring back at me.
"Look at those boys! They're both cute..."
The realization that all eyes were on us made me even frustrated. I felt uncomfortable with the loud murmurs that surrounded us, making me grip on my chopsticks a bit tighter which actually made my knuckled go white. Tilting my head down to hide my face, I felt something warm on my hand and that is when I noticed Moon Bin holding it.
"I know that my best friend is very handsome but you don't have to be nervous around him. He's a total dork." Moon Bin laughed before earning a playful slap on his nape from Dongmin who was smiling despite the evident irk mark on his forehead.

Just like that, what began as another suspected boring year for me became a year that I would never forget. Moon Bin and Dongmin had been tailing me and vice versa. It was only mostly Bin and I though because we were from the same class.
"You like Dongmin, don't you?" He blurted out, throwing a baseball ball up as he laid down the bench then proceed to catch it and throw it up once again. "Why'd you say that?" I asked, keeping my eyes on the Basketball team's shooting guard. "Your eyes can't keep secrets." He grunted slowly as he sat up, pointing at Dongmin scoring a three points.
"Admit that you do, and I will tell you who I like too." He said, capturing my attention as I was now looking at him. "How do you even know if you like someone?" I asked, giving him a questioning look as I averted my gaze back on Dongmin and his team.
"It first starts with your eyes... You look at them and then your mind will classify if they are your ideal type or not which will be confirmed by your heart." He explained with a little smile on his face as he stared into the distance. Following where he was looking at, I noticed that he is looking at one of our classmates, Hwang Eunbi.
I may still be clueless about what he meant but one thing is for sure, I was upset seeing him looking at her like that.
"What do we, seven-year-olds even know about loving?" I scoffed, averting my eyes once again to look at Dongmin who happened to catch me staring and waved his hand.
"Bin!"
Both of us turned towards the gate where a lady, presumably Moon Bin's mother was standing. "She's here... I have to go now." Moon Bin stood up and I handed him his bag. "Don't stay here too late and come home safe." Moon Bin smiled and reached up to ruffle my hair.
There it was again, the feeling of my heart raising just from a single contact with Moon Bin. I frowned as I watched him walking away but that frown soon switched to worry as I saw him getting dragged towards their car. I could clearly see how down Moon Bin looked as the car drove past and disappeared through the other gate.
Little did I know that the conversation I had with Bin that day would be the last one I'd ever have with him.
The next day, he didn't even come to my table before the period started like how he did a few months ago. He didn't even sit on our lunch table, instead, he dragged Dongmin to sit with him and his Baseball team. What sparked my curiosity though was the fact that he got a small cut on the side of his lips when he came to school after his mother picked him up.
"Bin, did I do something wrong?" I asked, tugging on his sleeves before he could even leave the room. "Will you still be here next year?" He straightforwardly questioned which took me aback. Is he trying to imply that he didn't want me here?
"I don't know..." I replied, slowly letting him go as the thought sank into me.
"Then don't give me more memories." He coldly retorted before disappearing through the hallway.
Quickly, as if it was the speed of light, the year had come to an end and the last words I've ever heard from my first love were those hurtful ones. And in fear that I'd see him again the next year, I did change schools just to avoid any more encounters with Moon Bin.
