Devan was scouting when the message came.
The messenger wore a strange skintight suit with unfamiliar markings on it. Even more strange, his hair was pure white, but he didn't even look that old. Devan had never seen such a young person with white hair. Maybe he was under a lot of stress?
"My name is Lornan of Kakariko Village. I am here to bring a message from Lady Impa herself." The messenger said as he approached the fort.
Kakariko? Devan had never heard of it. He looked at Granoli, because he knew a lot more about other villages. Granoli nodded gravely and said "Lady Impa. She is the leader of the Sheikah tribe. This must be important."
Granoli led Devan and a few other soldiers to meet the messenger at the gate. Sheikah... I feel like I've heard that name before. Devan thought to himself.
"Welcome to Fort Hateno, Lornan." Granoli said spreading his arms wide. "Please come into the fort. Monsters are attacking this place constantly, but our soldiers do a good job."
Devan was skeptical of this man and from the looks of his peers, they thought that too. Granoli was the only one remotely welcoming to the stranger.
"It's only a delivery" said Lornan. He reached in his bag and handed Granoli a scroll. "We look forward to collaboration." Then the man bowed and disappeared into the woods.
Granoli passed the scroll to Devan who opened it and read it out loud.
To the Commander of Fort Hateno,
My name is Lady Impa and I am one of the leaders in battling the Calamity. Your battalion has done an exceptional job defending Fort Hateno, and Hateno Village; no small feat indeed. I have heard the Fort's commander is a keen strategist. However, this isn't simply a congratulatory message. As you probably know, Hyrulean army forces are spread thin and are barely keeping up the fight. The Akkala Citadel is in grave danger so I am reaching out to you in a call for help: I am forming a support group to aid the waning forces of the Citadel. I'd like to meet with you to discuss possible strategies. Come to Kakariko within 3 days if you accept my request.
Impa of the Sheikah Tribe
Everyone was quiet for a moment, letting the message hang in the air.
"What's Akkala Citadel?" one soldier asked. Everyone looked at him incredulously.
"I-I'm sorry. Was I supposed to know that?"
"It's the base stronghold of the Hyrulean Guard. It's been under Royal control since forever. After Calamity struck, a majority of Hyrule's soldiers were sent there to take shelter." Granoli answered solemnly. "If it's in grave danger..."
"If the Citadel falls, then that's the last of the guard. Hyrule will be completely overrun. Only small battalions like ours will remain. " Devan finished.
"I thought the citadel was untouchable." piped up another soldier. "There are hundreds, if not thousands of highly skilled, super strong..."
Devan walked out, clutching the scroll. He had to defend Fort Hateno. He made a promise 6 months ago. But Akkala Citadel! It was in danger and besides, he always wanted to go there. This is war, not a vacation. He reminded himself.
"So what are you going to do?" Granoli asked, jolting him back to reality.
"I'll meet with this Impa person" said Devan. "Lets start there."
