"How was your trip, girl?!" Heather exclaimed as she allowed Mya in her home. It was Saturday and Mya and Shakur returned from vacation the day before. "You all tanned and shit."
"Bitch, I had the time of my life. Y'all really outdid yourselves this fucking year." Mya replied as they walked into the living room and sat down on the couch.
"I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I'm so happy for you." Heather said with a smile.
"Thank you, baby. I need your help with something though." Mya told her. "I want to find my family, but I'm scared. I want to start with my mother first. I know her name—I just can't bring myself to look her up. I've been dealing with this for some time now."
"Do you want me to search her?" Heather asked and Mya nodded. "What's her name?"
"Yvonne Marlina Silas." Mya told her. Heather took out her phone and searched the name in Google. She scrolled through the results and couldn't hide the sadness that appeared on her face. "What'd you find?"
"A—an obituary."
Mya snatched the phone from her best friend's hand and began to skim the obituary. "No! No! No!" She yelled once she got confirmation that it was her mother when she saw her name listed under children. "I'm three years too late, Heather!"
"I'm sorry, Mya." Heather said sympathetically. "It does say that you have an older brother. Would you like to reach out to him?"
"What if he doesn't accept me?" Mya asked.
"We won't know if we don't try." Heather assured her.
Mya sighed as she looked at the obituary again. "Zachariah Sylvester. It says he lives in Murfreesboro."
"Let's try looking him up on Facebook and if you're ready, you can send him a message." Heather suggested. Mya agreed as she took out her phone to do further research on her brother.

"This boy better be lucky I love him." Amaru mumbled as he paid for the deposit for the resort he booked for Killian's birthday in Hawaii.
"He's experiencing more shit than me and I'm twenty-five." Shakur said as he shook his head.
Amaru chuckled. "Shit, who you telling."
The two of them were currently sitting in Amaru's living room. Shakur had a few gifts for Killian from Punta Cana that he dropped off and decided to chill with them.
"So, Mya wants to get in contact with her family and I'm nervous." Shakur told his older brother.
"Why are you nervous?" Amaru asked as he closed his laptop.
"I don't want her to get hurt. She lived with pain most of her life. I just want her to be happy." Shakur said.
Amaru nodded. "I understand, but this is for her. If she wants to meet her family then support her and you got us to help support her too. This might be good for her."
"I know. I'm just being protective." Shakur sighed. "I just want her to be okay, man."
"Everything's gonna be good, lil bro." Amaru told him.
"Daddy, can I watch more tv before I go to sleep?" Killian asked as he walked into living room with his pajamas on.
Amaru looked at the time and nodded. "Put the tv timer on for one hour."
"Okay, good night daddy and uncle." Killian said as he ran to his room.
"Good night." They replied simultaneously.
