Chapter 6

Iruka's P.O.V.
  I could see worry and excitement on their faces. Itachi told me some interesting news about Sasuke before picking teams. Which, as my laziest student would put it, is such a drag. Ha it's actually kind of fun to say.
  "Students after some important news and long thinking, I have picked the teams". They cheered.
  "But there is some news regarding Sasuke..." Two of the three girls who passed looked really worried.
  "What's wrong with him?" They both said in sync.
  "Itachi had their father decline Sasuke's advancement to genin. Which means he'll be staying another year".
  "What!? Why would they do that!?!?!?" Ino screamed.
  "The Uchiha clan does not deem Sasuke worthy of graduating, but I can't tell you all the reasons".
  "You are now the rookie 8. Instead of 3 teams of 3, there will be 2 teams of 4." All but Sakura and Ino cheered.
  "Alright! Kiba, Shino, Sakura, and Hinata! You are team 8! Your captain will be Kurenai, or Kurenai-sensei to you four. Now the other four. Naruto, Shikamaru, Choji, and Ino! You are team 10! Your captain will be Asuma! Good luck to you all, and may you all turn out to be good shinobi- " Crap I'm crying! I told myself I wouldn't cry!
  "Sniff- and uh....BYE KIDS!!!" I ran out before they could say anything. Those kids will be great shinobi!
Naruto's P.O.V.
  Sasuke didn't deserve to be a shinobi, and because he's gone...I GET TO BE WITH SHIKA! I mean....on his team...
  "Kit just tell him....you're killing me..."
  "But I don't know him that well!"
  "It's been months, AND you're best friends"
  "Well...uh..mabey he has a mate?"
  "Which one? The one he's never talked about? Or the one you've never seen?"
  "But I'm too young to have a mate!"
  "You don't have to fully mate. You can MARK eachother, and aren't Shino and Kiba mates?"
  "Well....I'm out of excuses..."
  "Yep".
  "Well....I'll.."
  "Go on".
  "I can't...I just can't Kurama...".
  "Well we almost got there, but it's okay Kit".
  "Thanks Kiba!" I want him to be my mate, but...I-I don't know. I'm afraid of being rejected, and I know Shika would let me down softly. But I want him to accept me. I-I shouldn't be thinking about this....I'll get really sad... Apparently I looked really sad.
  "Naruto, are you okay?" Shikamaru asked me. I nodded, but I wasn't okay. I guess he could tell.
  "Really? 'Cuz it doesn't look like it". Where the hell is Asuma!?!?! He wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer.
  "I can't help if you don't tell me Naruto" Kiba was making a heart shape with his hands.
  "I-I'll tell you later...." He smiled and nodded. I mean...I might aswell tell him...that I like him and he's my fated mate. Which Kurama never really explained what a fated mate is. I mean, I still have to mate with him and mark him, so how are we chosen mates?
  "Well...I suppose I can explain while you wait for Asuma Kit".
  "Please do"
  "Everyone can pick their mate, techinally you can too, but a few people have mates that were chosen for them. They don't have to mate with that person, but people who are mated through fate were basically born to be together".
  "And you think Shikamaru is my fated partner?"
  "I only knew that your mate was in the academy, and that it was a guy. I could sense your fated connection, and uh....yeah you have to mate".
  "........thanks"
  "Don't ask me to talk about the birds and the bees!"
  "Why would I ask to talk about bees? I hate bees! Birds are okay though".
  ".......night" Kurama laid down. Welp guess he's done talking for now.
  Another shinobi came in and said Asuma was on a mission, so we'd meet him tomorrow. Shika and I were walking down the street.
  "Hey Shika..."
  "Yeah?" He asked, still looking forward.
  "What's the birds and the bees?" He started to have a coughing fit. I patted his back for comfort.
  "Why w-would you want to know that?!" His face was really red.
  "My uncle said he didn't want to talk about it, but I don't even know what it is". He pinched his nose.
  "Of course, well you can't just ask that out of the blue Naruto..."
  "Can you tell me?"
  "No! That'd be a drag. Not to mention awkward". What's so bad about birds and bees? And how is it awkward? I look over to Shika.
  I'm glad to have him on my team, choji too, but Ino is a completely different story. My interations with her wasn't exactly good, though I'd rather have Ino then Sakura on my team. She'd probely lecture and hit me lot, or get in the way.
  "So tell me, what's got 'cha down Naruto?" He put his arms behind his neck.
  "Well.....mabey I should tell you at the Nara compound..." I know it was wrong in let it....drag out, but it'd be better to tell him at his house. Right?
  "Good thing we're here. Come in." Aww man. I follow him to his room and we sit down on his bed.
  "So?" Man I can't tell him I like him!
  "Well it's just...my h-heat!" Man I should've just told him! He looks pretty surprised, and his face was really flushed. But it seemed like he composed himself.
  "Y-your h-h-heat? Ahem! W-what about it?" He moved a little closer to hear.
  "My u-uncle told me my heat will b-be very painful, and that I must h-have a mate" Shika looked really worried, but that turned into a look I've never seen before.
  "You need a mate that bad?" He scooted closer to me.
  "I mean I guess..." He was really close now... Shikamaru played with my hair.
  "Th-there are a lot of people out there". He held my hand, and smiled
  "There are even people nearby".
  "Really? What for?" He let out a long sigh.
  "Man this is such a drag...". Shika didn't say anything else, just looked at me.
  "Listen I-" We both say. I laugh at the timing.
  "Go first Shikamaru".
