A Mate: A ShikaNaru fanfic

Chapter 1

Kurama's P.O.V.
I know Naruto was surprised that Lord 3rd said he'd join the academy, and surely I am too, but I can't help but be suspicious. Naruto is my kit, and I need to protect him. I frown to noone in particular since Naruto can't see me nor hear me right now. Naruto and Jiraiya are the only ones I can trust... I huff in annoyance. And for now I'll tolerate others...., but if his mate truly is at the academy.....it would be for the best.
"I can hear you thinking Kurama! What is it?" This boy is sneaky. I've trained him with many things including eavesdropping, but to know that he can notice me thinking is absurd.
"Hah, nothing for you to worry about kit"
"Awww! Come onnnnn!" He wines.
"Oi! Quit complaining! It's nothing
.."
"Suuurrreeee. Just tell me..." I let a deep laugh escape my throat
Just enjoy the academy!" I lay down getting ready to sleep. I can't tell him that i'm worring about him mating. He's told me not to mention it since he's an omega, but I really hopes he befriends his mate soon.
Naruto's P.O.V.
Kurama has been weird lately. I mean joining the academy is my dream! Yet Kurama is being a grumper grumpster grumpy pants! I smile towards the building I have wished to go to. I wasn't allowed to start at the age of eight....however I can join now and that isn't bad. I would be behind if Kurama hadn't tought me some stuff.
I smile, and walk into the building and into the classroom I would be staying in. There were a few people who stood out including a duckbutt (Sausuke), pinkie (Sakura), weird shades dude (shino), short-haired girl (Hinata), and a few others. But none of them even looked my way. However another boy was looking directly at me. He had his hair in a ponytail. Everyone went silent as more people started to notice me. It was kind of awkward, but I didn't let it show.
"So um...this is our new student Naruto Uzumaki!" He turned to me. "I'm Iruka, please introduce yourself!"
"I'm Naruto! I love ramen, hate bossy people, and...." I pause for dramatic effect. "I'm going to be the next hokage!" I smile at them. I turn to ask the teacher- er Iruka-sensi where I should sit when someone erupted me.
"You? Become hokage? That's hilarious!" I turn to the annoying voice of a blonde girl. I was about to comment when another voice interrupted me.
"Ino you pig! I wanted to say that to impress Sasuke! You Sasuke stealer!"
"He hasn't even been here for 10 minuets and you're already trying to start a fight?" A new voice said. It was the pony-tailed boy. The three boys next to him nodded in agreement so did some others in the room. I decided to sit next to the kid with the ponytail.
"Hey! I'm Kiba!" Said a boy in front of the ponytail.
"This is Choji and shino!" He points at the two others boys.
"And this" He points to a dog in his head. " is Akamaru.
"I swear you and that Kiba boy could be related"
"How so?"
"So energetic and such a bottom..."
"Bottom?"
"Ug! N-nevermind"
Well, that was weird... I look over to Kiba and nod.
"And I'm Shikamaru" So that's his name....
"Shikamaru?"
"What?
"Shika.....maru." He raised a brow at me.
"Shikamaru!"
"Ummm...you okay new guy?" I smile and laugh.
"Definitely not okay...." Choji whispers.
"No, its just...that name is really fun to say!" (Authors note: I know this is weird, but since their mates and....I love saying his name 😁)
"Your name isn't bad either...." I blush a little bit. I didn't expect a compliment back, though it did feel nice.
"Thanks!" He nods his head at me.
"Really Naruto? That was certainly unexpected...."
"What?
"Shikamaru seems a good fit, a bit lazy, but he is a strong and capable Alfa..."
"Well, you already told me my second gender was a omega, soooo I'm hoping you're not going where I thing you're going...."
"Hah, Kit. You need a mate..." I roll my eyes at him.
"We've been over this...I don't want a mate"
"But your heat will be here soon if you had a mate it wouldn't be too bad, but you would be completely vulnerable and not even I myself could save you!"
I know he's worried, but I can't bring myself to mate with someone...especially since I don't know many people...
"Naruto! Shikamaru! Pay attention!" I blushed and cursed at Kurama for distracting me. I got to meet a girl named Hinata. She was really sweet we became instant best friends being omegas and all. But I stayed away from duckbutt and his two chicks.
I was talking to my little group of friends at lunch when duckbutt came up to me without his two fan girls.
Oh boy...
"Hey, new kid. What clan are you from?" He slammed his hand on the table when I didn't answer. I won't lie it startled me a little, but it didnt intimidate me in the least. I stared right into his cold heartless eyes.
"Why do I have to tell you, Duckbutt?!" A few gasped, but my friends just laughed and giggled. Sasuke let out a annoyed huff.
"Do you know who my brother is?!" I rolled my eyes. Who uses their family member's position?
"No, and frankly I don't care" Suddenly a ninja appeared. He looked a lot like Sasuke, but older. Most likely his brother. Sasuke had a evil smirk on his face.
"Itachi! Great timing! This fool, Naruto, has dared to look down on the Uchiha clan!" He looked at me,but quickly turned his attention to Sasuke.
"Naruto isn't one who would talk trash on someone for no reason".
"But he called me duckbutt!" Itachi smiled and ruffled his hair.
"Who's fault is that?" He laughed and poofed into a cloud of smoke after making a hand sign. I laughed Itachi was a weird ninja.
"Do you know Itachi?" Shikamaru asked. I nodded.
"I only met him once, but it was when the hokage assigned him to keep an eye on me at school and he was in his ambu uniform". Choji continued to ask everyone if they had any left overs, and we just laughed at him. It was nice. They asked me if they could meet my parents and I had to reply with no. They also wanted to have a sleep over at my place, but I disagreed to that too. So we all decided to have a sleep over at the Nara compound. Everyone went to go ask their parents if they could come while Shika and I just walked to his house. He didn't ask why he couldn't meet my parents or why I didn't bother to ask them. He probley figured it out. That they're dead. I mean he has a high IQ.
"You're troublesome". I looked at him with a puzzled look.
"Really? Why?"
"Everything is a drag, and its so troublesome". He lets out a long sigh.
"So then I'm a drag?" I say with a pout. He smiles softly at me.
You're troublesome, but....you're not a drag..." He contines walking forward with a slight blush on his face. Is it too cold out here? I hurry behind him catching up and entering the Nara household.
