The shadow of the sun shined though the cracks of the heavy wooden door of the shed. I was happy to see it again, the darkness sadly scared me..when you only sleep with a night light then suddenly it's taken away from you just like that and your stuck in the pitch black feeling like you keep seeing and hearing stuff it gets kinda scary.
With a sigh I smiled. "I missed you." I whispered staring at the light that shined though, my shadow resting on the stone floor. I hated my shadow it was just like looking at my reflection, you see something different something strange.
Two ears sticking from the head a tail wrapping around me, it wasn't normal..I was a freak.
Slowly I reached up grabbing my ear feeling the soft hair under my fingers. I hated that I was different and for that hated and hidden from the world. My hand turned from gentle to rough as I begun to pull at my ear. I wish I could just tear them off and be normal and loved!
"I like you for you and that's all that should matter being different is not such a bad thing." Kyle's voice rung through my head, his sweet voice that I missed so much...I'd give anything to see him...
Tears begun to fill my eyes my hand falling to my side. Kyle was the only one that's been there for me, the real me besides my parents. I missed him, I want to see him..I need to see him.
Suddenly something caught my eye, a flash that seemed to run across the ground.
I searched the room with my eyes, turning slightly in the cage trying to find what I saw, or think I saw..I could be seeing stuff again.
With a sigh I gave up resting my head on the cold bars. Who cares anyway, it's not like I could catch it. I was starving and a roach sounded good at the moment, sickening huh?
I couldn't stop thinking about food, yummy food. Chicken, warm soup, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich...even just a plain slice of bread and cold water.
My tummy growled loudly making me groan. "I can't do anything for you!" I snapped rolling my eyes. "So don't bitch at me."
I turned back to the light that shined though, I didn't feel happy anymore. I wanted to be in the light, outside instead of being locked up in this horrible cage. If I ever get a dog or......cat I won't ever put them in a cage! It's horrible being trapped in something.
The hours seemed to go by slow as well as the days. I don't know how long I've been in here but it feels like weeks..I haven't seen Uncle Max for days it seems like. Has he forgotten about me, Or does he just not care..?
I'm betting on he doesn't care!
After what seemed like a couple hours the darkness swallowed me once again, felling the room in noting but black...I couldn't see a thing.
I was scared, you would think I would be use to it by now but I'm not and never will be. I'm terrified of the dark.
The cold had me shivering under the thin sheet that laid against me. My legs and feet uncovered goose bumps forming as the cold wind blew into the shed.
I shivered as I placed my head between my knees trying my best to keep warm.
My ears twitched from a small squeak that came from outside the cage. Slowly I rose my head searching the dark room. I couldn't see anything but the small notice seemed to get closer and closer to me making my heart race with fear.
I was scared of the dark and knowing something was in here with me creeped me out.
Memories of one of my mothers stories filled my head, she was trying to scare me the day before halloween. "Have you ever head of the baby?" Mother had asked a creepy smile forming on her beautiful face. I shook my head. I was maybe six or seven when she had told me the story and to this day I remember it.
"Well...let's see." She paused placing her finger to her pink lips. "There was this baby, he was a tiny fella. The doctors had told the parents the baby wouldn't make it but to there surprise he did he seemed fine in the hospital. The parents where very happy and a few weeks later they took there son home." She had paused looking up at me her smile turning into a frown.
"But after a couple weeks there child seemed different, unlike any other baby they've ever seen. He was moving weirdly at night in his bassinet.
The mother would wake to her baby making strange sounds. She would look over to see her newborn staring at her with yellow glowing eyes."
Mother stopped and and looked at me, making sure I was still fine and I had begged her to carry on so she did.
"Well after a few weeks of waking up with her baby being strange she and her husband took the child to the doctor to be checked out. They said he was fine and she was just going though a stage that a lot of new mothers go though."
Mother had stopped again taking a sip of her water then continuing.
"After there doctors visit the baby seemed to be acting more normal and she was able to sleep again without worry, but after a couple months things seemed to go down heel for the worst.
The husband started staying at work later then normal while the mother took care of the baby all by herself. The child started acting weird again, at two mouths he was crawling around on all fours, which wasn't normal, she's never seen anything like it. She was beyond freaked out.
She told friends and they end up laughing making her feel stupid. So she stopped telling people. The baby begun to walk at four mouths. She had stopped taking him to doctors cause they all treated her the same as her friends and she was scared they end up thinking she was messed up and take her son away.
The baby turned four mouths and was taking big steps almost running.
She was more use to the strangeness now, her husband was hardly home anymore and she was becoming more and more depressed.
Her husband gave her a kiss on the cheek on a early Saturday morning before leaving for work. She sat In front of the sink washing dishes while her son played with blocks of all different colours.
She didn't pay much attention only checking on him a couple times every few minutes. With her back turned humming a song from a country singer while doing the dishes she suddenly heard fast footsteps running across the hard wooden floor to her before she could turn around something sharp was stabbed into her lower back.
She slowly reached down pulling it from her back and bringing it to her face. Blood covered her fingers and the sharp pocket knife that belonged to her husband. She looked down at her son in his dad's arms a wicked smile on his face.
(Okay okay, I got a little into the scary story....I'm sorry lol...back to the story!!)
I shivered at the memory...maybe that's why I'm so scared of the dark, thanks mom.
The small footsteps just remained me of the story, and it freaked me out.
A soft squeak came from In front of the cage making me want to scream but I covered my mouth my eyes growing wide with the horrible images I saw inside my head of what it could be, but that soon ended when I saw a very small creature run up into my leg...a little mouse.
