For as long as she could remember, Accalia knew she wasn't a girl. She hated the color pink, her long hair, dresses, and especially anything traditionally girly. These feelings only intensified that fateful night just after her 5th birthday when she was turned. Accalia becoming a male werewolf was the last reassurance that she was, in fact, a boy. She spent years denying it, but she couldn't any longer. She was a boy and that was final. Accalia knew she didn't want to live the way she was. On a quiet evening just before her 10th birthday, she shuffled over to her parents who were busy drinking tea and chatting. He started,
"Mum, Dad, I have something I need to tell you..."
Hope said,
"Well, go on dear."
Accalia quite shaky said,
"I...er...well, I think I'm a boy..."
Lyall Lupin shook his head in displeasure, scurrying off into his office without a word. He was not wanting to deal with whatever confused thoughts that were going through his daughter's mind. Hope, on the other hand, pulled her child into her arms asking,
"Is that who you are dear?"
He shook his head yes.
"So, do you have a name in mind that you'd rather be called?"
Accalia looked up,
"Um, yes. Remus...Remus John Lupin..."
Hope smiled. She loved the name.
"Um, Mum...can I ask something else?"
Remus' mother nodded her head.
"Can we cut my hair?"
Hope walked her son into the bathroom along with a pair of shears and began to chop off Remus' honey blonde, curly hair until it was definitely a boy cut. Hope was no hairstylist but tried her best cutting it shorter on the sides and leaving it longer on top. When she was done, she said,
"You look very handsome. Tomorrow we'll buy you some boy things, alright?"
Remus was smiling ear to ear. That day, he was happier than he had been in a long time.
The next day came and, although they didn't have much, his mum had been saving a bit of money for his birthday and used it to get him some clothes that better fit who he was. He got boy pants, shirts, trousers, and jumpers. Remus was ecstatic. It felt astounding to finally see himself looking like the person he was on the inside.
Before the summer holiday ended, (where he would return to his first year of secondary school) his mother registered him as Remus so all the people would know he was Remus, a boy, not Accalia, a girl. Despite many desperate attempts from both Remus and his mother, his father still misgendered him; often purposefully, which definitely hurt. Remus was about 10 ½ when he began puberty, causing his chest to begin to fill out, which petrified him. His mother had begun to notice the growth and on his 11th birthday and she got him his first binder. He loved it so much that he cried tears of joy, telling his mother "thank you."
It was late August when Dumbledore arrived at his house, expecting to meet a little girl, but was instead greeted by a little boy. Dumbledore reassured Hope and Remus (Lyall had been away on a work trip) that it wouldn't be a problem and only him, Madam Pomfrey, and his head of house would know of his legal name as well as his assigned at birth sex. But beyond that, he would dorm with the boys and all teachers and staff would know him by Remus Lupin. No one would ever know of him being a werewolf or transgender unless he, of course, told them himself.
