It was decided. They began work finding a surrogate. After meeting with many people who denied them for being a gay couple, they found one of the sane people in Sirius', family: Tonks, an AFAB (assigned female at birth) non-binary punk rocker.
They agreed, saying that they'd love to be the pair's surrogate.
Soon, Sirius and Remus made arrangements to travel to Hogwarts and collected Remus' eggs.
After finding a doctor to perform the procedures, the process began.
And at 25, 9 short months later, Lily and James became aunt and uncle and Remus and Sirius became Moony and Pads.
They named their son Edward ("Teddy" for short) Lupin-Black. He was born a metamorphmagus, quickly changing his hair and eye color many times after birth.
When he settled, his hair was a bluish teal and his eyes were amber-brown just like Remus'. Remus and Sirius loved being dads. They read to Teddy, played games with him, ate food with him, and had as much fun as possible together.
They took him to play with Harry often and Teddy didn't even understand that Harry was blind. They were fantastic parents and taught Teddy to love all and respect all. Teddy was encouraged to play with whatever he wanted, whether it was dolls or trucks, they didn't care as long as he was happy.
He began primary school the year after Harry, being the oldest in his grade. Teddy excelled in school and loved telling people that he had two dads, a Prongs, and an auntie. He defended Harry against people who thought it was funny to move or take his things because he couldn't see.
At around eight or nine, he walked in on Sirius and Remus naked. It was late and they had put Teddy to bed hours ago. He was confused that his dads had different parts. They hadn't explained the trans thing to Teddy just yet, feeling like he was too young. Dressing quickly, they walked to his room, preparing to explain themselves.
He was crying, feeling as if they lied to him. Crying,
"But why doesn't Moony have a long thing like Pads and I???"
Remus, although very comfortable in the body he had now, still felt a ping of dysphoria, even though he understood that Teddy was simply confused.
They sat him down and Remus explained,
"Listen, Teddy, I don't have a long thing like you and Pads because I was born a girl, but, as I grew up, I started to feel like I was a boy, making me transgender. This means that I don't identify as the sex I was assigned at birth, but I'm still a boy like you and Pads, except I lack a long thing."
Sirius added,
"And it's okay to change how you identify. Having different parts doesn't make you any less of the gender you identify as. Moony and I love each other like two boys because we are both boys. Understand?"
Teddy was kind of excited that someone could change their gender. He had never heard of it before and found it incredibly fascinating. He began to apologize to Remus, sensing he had made him uncomfortable,
"Oh, and I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable, Moony. I didn't mean to..."
Remus pulled Teddy into a hug, saying,
"It's alright. I understand why you were confused."
Sirius added,
"And we are sorry that you had to find out like this. We were going to tell you, but we didn't think it was the right time yet. However, I guess fate decided that it was time."
Teddy just said,
"It's okay, but it is still Remus' secret to tell."

The changing of one's gender excited Teddy. Sometimes he felt like he was a boy, while at others, he was in between being a boy and a girl.
He began to ask little questions periodically, hoping to avoid any suspicions,
"Hey Moony, can someone feel like a boy sometimes and sometimes in between being a boy and a girl?"
Remus was intrigued as to why Teddy asked but answered,
"Well, yes. It's called being gender fluid. It means that a person sometimes feels like a 'he,' and others, a 'they,' or even a 'she.'"
Teddy smiled internally. That was him! He experienced exactly what Remus was describing. He asked,
"Is it ever too young to say that you're trans or gender fluid?"
Remus smiled. It clicked: Teddy was questioning. Not wanting to force him to say anything he wasn't comfortable saying yet, Remus responded,
"Well, no. I don't think so. I came out to my mother when I was around 10 and began socially transitioning."

It took Teddy nearly four months to be sure but he knew who he was. On a Saturday morning, Teddy gathered Sirius and Remus to the living room and started,
"I need to tell you both something..."
Sirius said,
"Alright, bud. Go on."
Teddy's hair turned pink, indicating that he was embarrassed,
"I think I'm gender fluid...sometimes I feel like a 'he' and others a 'they,' but never really a 'she...'"
Remus pulled Teddy in close and said,
"That's perfectly okay. We love you, alright?"
Sirius joined the hug that he wished he would've gotten when coming out, saying,
"Of course. We love you no matter what."
Teddy shed a few tears. Remus asked,
"Is there anything you want to change? Your clothes? Your name? Your pronouns?"
Teddy hadn't really thought about this part, but awkwardly said,
"Uhhhh, my name is good. I like being Teddy all the time. I guess I prefer 'he/him' and 'they/them' pronouns..."
Sirius said,
"Well, are there times where you feel more like a 'he' and others more like a 'they?'" Teddy thought,
"Well, yeah...like right now. I feel like a 'he,' but last week, I felt like more of a 'they;' not a boy, but not a girl either."
Remus said,
"Well, then we might want to arrange a system; something that can tell us (and others) which pronouns you'd like to use on that day."
Teddy smiled. His hair turned teal again,
"How about a bracelet with Braille beads for Harry; one that's blue for 'he' and another that's purple for 'they?'"
Sirius grinned,
"I like that idea."
Teddy's hair turned pink again,
"Could I maybe get some more girly stuff...?
He quietly asked.
Remus looked Teddy in the eyes,
"Of course! We'll go to the shops tomorrow and you can get any clothes that you'd like, alright?"
Teddy smiled ear to ear, thanking both of his dads before running off to make the bracelets. There really wasn't a point in getting a haircut because he was a metamorphmagus, meaning he could change his hair at will. It was usually longer on top and shaved on the sides.
The next day, the three of them headed out. Teddy was wearing their purple bracelet. They picked out a few longer cropped shirts and some skirts. They were incredibly happy wearing a skirt. It made them feel like themself.
Remus and Sirius were given some looks for taking their child into a "girl's" shop, but they didn't care much.
The next week, Teddy was over at Harry's house and was determined to come out. Once they gathered everyone in the living room, and after some reassuring looks from their dads, they started,
"Um...Aunt Lily, Prongs, and Harry, I want you to know that I'm genderfluid. This means that sometimes I'm a 'he' and sometimes a 'they.' I have special bracelets. When it's blue, it means I'd like to be a 'he,' and when it's purple, I want to be a 'they...'"
Lily and James said that they were very proud. Harry looked a little hurt, asking,
"Teddy, I really want to call you the right thing, but I can't see the color of your bracelets..."
Teddy smiled, telling Harry,
"No, no, it's okay. The bracelets will always be on my left wrist and the beads have braille on them."
Harry reached out to find Teddy's wrist and read off the dots: "they/them," it read.
Smiling, Harry said,
"You want to be 'they/them' today, right?"
Teddy replied,
"Yup. I made it just so you could read them and know."
Harry hugged Teddy.

Teddy went off to Hogwarts the year after Harry, being sorted into Hufflepuff. He excelled in almost everything, and made great, accepting friends along the way. He and Harry definitely stirred up trouble, being the children of the famous Marauders, but enjoyed their lives together as best friends overall.

Sirius and Remus lived a beautiful life full of challenges and setbacks, but they
ultimately survived. They loved each other more than they needed to survive. They were amazing advocates for equal rights of lgbtqia+ wizards, half breeds (like Remus), muggle-borns, and people of color within the wizarding world. They died legends alongside their best friends, all being remembered on Chocolate Frog Cards for their contributions toward these movements.
Sirius was the first Black and openly gay wizard to be featured on a card.
Remus was the first werewolf, trans, and gay wizard to be featured on a card.
James was the first Desi wizard to be featured on a card.
And Lily was the first muggle-born on the card.
They died legends after living lives full of beautiful memories.
