Lilo’s POV

My prediction was right, today was busy. Tom said it was one of the busiest days they’ve had in a while. Troy, the guy from earlier, came up to the tower. He said Maxi and Adriel were doing fine, so he thought he’d take position up here. I liked it here. Even if I was the only girl but still, I can make friends easily. Mouse had done my shopping for me, so I didn’t have to starve. Today was Saturday. That means my birthday is in four days.

I'm finally content, and I sure as hell meant all of it. The song was by Tonight Alive. My favourite band! My mind started to wander again.

Ayyy Macarena!

Stop! Hammer Time!

Everybody dance now!

Ok, focus, this job is everything to you! You don’t even like the last two songs!  I persuaded my mind to get back to reality.

“Maxi gave Adriel a name.” Troy exclaimed after he sat. Tom laughed. I looked at Troy.

“What is it Gonzo?” Tom asked. I hummed to myself. Seriously Lilo! Concentrate!

“Bacon. He looks like Kevin Bacon to Maxi apparently.” I laughed. He did, now I think about it he did. Tom joined my laughing. Gonzo smiled and picked a pair of binoculars and looked out to sea.

“Are you sure Bacon will be alright without you there?” Tom asked. Gonzo nodded.

“Yeah, Maxi seems to be behaving today. Which is a first.” I smiled. There was a knock at the door. “Could you get that Lilo?” Gonzo asked. He seemed like a nice guy. I nodded. I got up and answered the door. There was a middle aged woman, holding a screaming child. I ushered them in.

“Tom, could you help me?” I wasn’t sure what was wrong. There were white squiggly lines on the small boy’s arms. He seemed to be in a lot of discomfort. Tom took hold of the boys arm, looking at it.

“Blue bottles.” He simply said and handed me a spray bottle of water. “Spray it on the area. That’s all we can do.” I nodded and did as he said, whilst he was returning to the windows.  “Southerly wind Gonzo?” He nodded.

“Yeah, we’ll have a lot of them today.” Tom laughed. I sent the little kid and his mum outside and gave them some ice to calm the discomfort. Kerrbox came bringing a man how seemed to have been hit in the face with his or another person’s board. He had a massive gash on his nose.

“Would you mind sorting this out please Lilo?” I nodded and brought the man inside and led him to the bed. I had done medical training on things like this so I knew what I was doing. I cleaned the wound with some water, then dressed it and advised him he should go to the hospital. As soon as I put the bloody gauze in the bin, there was another knock at the door. Tom laughed at my face. I moaned but answered it with a smile. It was another blue bottle victim, a man in his mid-thirties. He scrunched his face in pain. I checked there was nothing left and sprayed it with water. Another knock stopped me, I handed him the water to apply himself. A guy, in lifeguard uniform walked in smiling. Something was odd about him, but he seemed nice, maybe it was his head, it looked too small for him. I laughed to myself. Way to look crazy Lilo! Seriously would you shut up? My mental battles never end.

“You new?”  The guy I asked. I nodded a reply.

“Yeah she is. Her name is Lilo!” Troy piped up. It scared me a little. Out of the blue… like a shark attack. Seriously thinking my mind is trying to make me go insane.

“I’m Lilo.” I said, smiling. The guy laughed.

“Deano.” I shook his hand. Another knock at the door. I slapped my fore head.

“Could someone please help me?” I begged. Tom shrugged. “Tom, I thought you are supposed to teach me the ropes around here.” He laughed.

“Meh.” He said. I laughed. Deano walked over and took up a seat by the window. Gonzo stood up and walked over to me.

“I’ll help you.” Gonzo offered. I nodded.

“Thank you! At least someone here is helpful!” I raised my voice for the last bit. Tom laughed with Deano.

“Watch out Lilo, he’s feisty.” Deano joked. I chuckled a bit. “You got a name yet?” I shook my head.

“Ask Tom for ideas.” I said before scurrying out the door with Gonzo, holding a first aid kit. Gonzo was a quiet one.  Really? About ten people were lining up now. Man I hate bluebottles.
