We reached my mother's room and I knocked on the door. One of her maids answered it and called back to mom
"Miss, Eadlyn and Kile are here." She said
"They can come in" Mom said to her and she stepped aside to let us in. After we were in, her maids left the room. Mom was sitting at her piano and was putting away music. I led Kile to sit on the couch and I sat next to him "I'm so happy that you and Kile are safe. We were all worried when you didn't make it to the safe room." she got up and gave me a hug "Now, what is it that you need, honey?"
"Mom, I know I can't end the selection yet, and I'm not asking to, but I've made my choice." I reached for Kile's hand and he gave mine a squeeze. I knew mom saw the interaction by the way she smiled "I'll continue the selection but I just thought you should know that I made my choice. I know it's not fair to the other boys, but by ending it this early it would defeat the point of holding a selection." I tried to get everything out there so she would understand
"That's wonderful, darling. You keep doing what you need to do. I'll take care of talking to your father. You're right, you still need to continue but I'll talk to him and let you end it sooner." She said "Honey, before you go, can I talk to you alone for a minute?"
"Sure." Kile kissed my forehead then left the room. Mom sat down next to me
"I promised myself to not get involved. Just as your grandmother did, she promised herself to not say anything about your father's selection. But I think I need to." She took hold of one of my hands "Seeing as you have already made your decision this will be easier, but I think you need to sit down and have a conversation with Sir Fox. He was quite disrespectful towards your name down in the safe room, and I think you need to address that with him." I nodded "One more thing, I know the selection has not begun too long ago, but in order to speed up the process I think you may want to select the elite soon. You only need to choose six. Your father did. That means more dates. With other boys, not just Kile. He isn't the one you need to spend more time with. You need to get to know the other boys so you can chose your elite. Even if you don't feel anything for them. Just chose who you can tolerate basically." We both laughed "That's all." We got up and she hugged me. "Go on. Do what you need to do. Remember: you need to spend time with other boys not just Kile." She smiled
"I will mom. Thank you for the advice."
"Of course." She kissed my cheek and led me to the door. "Oh Marlee will be so exciting!" She whisper yelled as she was closing the door behind me.
I saw Kile sitting on a bench down the hallway and walked over to him "Penny for your thought?" I asked
"You." I gave him a confused look "You seem to be the only thing taking up my thoughts lately." He smiled up at me
"I'm glad we share the same feeling, you are all I think about." I said and sat next to him. He put his arm around me and kissed my cheek "I can't believe where we are now. I try to reason with the thought of how we went from hating each other to where we are now but I can't figure it out."
"I don't care about the reason, I just love where we are now." He said and wrapped me in a hug. I turned my face up to look at him and gave him a soft kiss "I love you Eadlyn Schreave."
"I love you Kile Woodwork." I kissed him again "Mother said I need to talk with Fox. Something about him 'disrespecting my name' while they were in the safe room."
"That's not good." He said "Go ahead. I'll see you later."
