I walked down the hall to the men's parlor, each step trying to figure out how to deal with Fox. When I reached the door the guard opened it and I stepped in. All heads turned toward me. All except Fox.
"Sorry to interrupt boys, but, Sir Fox," he looked up at the sound of his name "could you please join me?" He had a guilty look on his face
"Of course." He got up and walked over to me and bowed. I leaned in to whisper to him
"No need to be formal, what's done is done and thats what you are." He blinked in surprise of my tone of voice. He covered up the surprise and pretended like I didn't say anything until we reached the hallway
"Is there an issue?" He asked innocently
"Apparently so. I heard from my mother that you were speaking poorly of me while you all were in the safe room. I just wanted to have a chat. You know, see if you can give me a reason not to request you to leave at this moment."
"Eadlyn,-" he started to explain before I cut him off
"I don't think you have the right to refer to me in such a casual manner anymore. At least not right now."
"Princess Eadlyn, please hear me out." I led him to a small library and we sat in chairs adjacent to each other
"Go ahead, I'm listening."
"You are spending a very large amount of time with Kile. It's unfair to the rest of us."
"Okay and why couldn't you speak to me in a mature way rather than disrespect me behind my back?" I questioned "I would like to know exactly what you said about me in the safe room earlier today." He told me and I couldn't be angrier "You decided to be part of my Selection, you knew that part of the deal was that I spend time with all of you boys and attempt to narrow you all down to one. Yes I spend more time with some and less with others but you have to realize the intensity of this competition. I have to find a husband. I have to find someone to rule beside me. Someone who the country will love just as much as I do. That's not an easy task and if you don't agree with me then you're time here is done and I would really appreciate if you go collect your things while my father and I contact your family to prepare them to pick you up at the airport because I will not be disrespected like that in my own home." I said all of this in a firm manner. Fox just sat there and listened. "You may go now. If you'd like you can stop in and say goodbye to the other boys but your time in my Selection is over." I got up and left the room to go to my father's study.
When I got to the door, I was surprised to not see any guards at the door. I knocked "Daddy? Can I come in?" I called through the door
"Um... One minute honey." He called back. I pressed my ear to the door and heard a lot of shuffling and mom's voice "Okay, you can come in."
I opened the door and saw dad standing at his desk and mom reading one of the books that dad was in the middle of in one of the chairs. Dad's hair was a mess and his glasses were on crooked. His desk was just a mess of papers. The normal organization was long gone. "Really guys?" I threw my hands up. Mom's face flushed "You have a room for a reason. You have two rooms actually!" I put my hands on my head in exasperation "Okay so where shouldn't I sit?"
"The couch, the desk,-" mom spoke without looking up from the book she was reading
"You know what? I'll just stand." I said
"Smart." Mom said back.
"Dad?" I looked over at him trying to organize his desk again
"Yes Eady?" He croaked out, the embarrassment still clear
"We need to call the family of Sir Fox. He will be leaving before dinner." I said
"I can take care of that. Is that all?" He said and sat down
"Yes. I'm leaving now. And just so you know, this could've easily been avoided." I pointed between them then walked out the door before closing it all the way I heard mom
"I told you we would get caught."
"What's the fun if we don't test the limits?" Dad responded
"Maxon we're not 20 anymore."
"You didn't seem very against the idea when I-" I quickly shut the door. Yeah no, I don't need to hear the details of what just happened.
