Chapter 22: Thank You

You decide that they're trustworthy.

"T-Thank you." You say.

"You're not afraid?" You hear someone say as a red masked turtle comes out of the shadows.

"You saved me. Why would I be?" You say.

"I guess you have a point..." He says.

2 other turtles come out of the shadows.

One has a blue mask and the other had a purple one.

You look at your watch.

"Crap! I was supposed to be home 20 minutes ago!" You say.

"I'm sure your parents will understand if you tell them what happened." The one in blue says.

"'Lilliana', is not the understanding type." You say.

"Who's Lilliana?" The one in orange asks.

"My foster mother." You say.

"Why wouldn't she understand?" The one in purple asks.

You don't answer.

"Well?" The one in red says impatiently.

"She's just not, okay?" You say.
"You can tell us." The one in orange says with a gentle and childish smile on his face.

"She's an alcoholic." You say.

It's true.

She's rarely sober, and she's abusive.

You didn't say abusive because you didn't want them to worry about you.

You know how to deal with her outbreaks.

They're all silent.

"When she's mad, she makes sure you understand what you did wrong, even when it's her fault." You say.

"It sounds like you'd rather be anywhere else than there." The one in blue says.

"Yeah, pretty much." You say.

"Would you like to stay with us?" He asks you.

"Really? But I just met you and-" You start to say.

"No. Absolutely not." The one in red says.

"Why not?" The one in blue asks.

"I can think of a million reasons why not!" The red clad replies.

"She's obviously not happy at her house, she knows about us know, and I'm sure Sensei will understand." He defends.

"Let's take a vote." The red clad says.

"Alright then." The blue clad says.

"Who votes to not let her stay with us?" The red clad says.

He's the only one who raises his hand.

"Sorry, dude, I think she's cool." The orange clad says.

"I'm gonna have to go with Leo on this one, she sounds like she's been through a lot and can't take much more." The purple clad says.

The red clad groans.

'So the blue one is Leo?' You think.

"Would you like to stay with us?" The one in blue, or, Leo, asks.

"More than anything! But..." You say.

"But what?" The purple clad says.

"I... I can't just leave Angela." You say.

"Who's Angela?" The red clad asks.

"The youngest in our house. She's my foster sister, but we're like real sisters. There's Lilliana, my foster mother, Ellie, the oldest, she's 17. I'm the second oldest, and I'm 15. Jonah is the middle child, he's 11. Nick is the second youngest, he's 8. And then there's Angela, she's 5. Since Lilliana never really takes care of us, I take care of Angela." You say.

"What about Ellie?" The purple clad asks.

"What about her?" You ask.

"Why doesn't she help take care of Angela?" He asks.

"She never does anything. She's not responsible, cares nothing for any of us, and spends all of her time with her boyfriend." You say.

"What about Jonah and Nick?" Leo asks.

"Jonah might be 11, but he's very mature. He takes care of Nick. I trust him with Nick more than anyone." You say.

"So... Are you coming?" The orange clad asks.

What would you do?

Stay and abandon Angela, or go home and keep having to deal with Lilliana?

You decide.
