Adam parked the slate grey Porche across the street and killed the engine. He'd spent an hour trying to talk himself out of coming and another forty minutes driving around town until he worked up the nerve to go to his destination.
The building appeared normal and non-threatening from the outside. One might think it was a bar or a rec center. A small line had formed at the door, so it wasn't crowded.
"Get out of the car," he said to himself. "Stop being a coward."
He grabbed his paper for admission then got out, locking the door. He couldn't believe he was really doing this. A million insecurities rushed through his head. Was he too old? Would he not be taken seriously? What if he saw someone he knew?
Before he cold convince himself to drive away, he crossed the street. As he got closer, he saw the sign Paradise Found, which was barely lit enough to be seen from the sidewalk. When he reached the end of the line, the others glanced at him with a hint of fear. He probably did look intimidating with his leather jacket stretched over his broad shoulders. He ignored them and pretended to read the paper in his hands.
His phone buzzed, causing him to jump. He wasn't usually this antsy, but tonight was a big step for him.
"Yes?" he answered.
"Ay, little brother! Where you at?"
It was Kai, his older brother. Unlike Adam, Kai wasn't as ambitious when it came to the business, so he only worked as a Jack Black dealer at the tables every night. Kai was a party boy, though he was no boy. Older than Adam by four years, he was just as likely to live a life as a permanent bachelor as Kai was.
Despite Kai's promiscuous lifestyle, Adam didn't think he could trust him with his secret interest in kink. Kai could never be serious and would assume it was a phase and not a lifestyle he craved.
"Ah . . . home. Why?"
"Lies. Dakota said you borrowed his car. You got a date or something?"
Dammit, he was caught. Of course DD couldn't keep his lips shut. All he could do was play into the lie.
"Yes. I'm on a date."
"Look at you playing the field again. It's been a while."
"Not all of us can be whores like you." It came time for his turn for admission. He couldn't reach his ID so this gave him an excuse to hang up. "I gotta go. Just got to the restaurant. Still on for golf tomorrow?"
"You know it. Stay golden, Pony Boy!"
His brother hung up, and Adam showed the bouncer his ID.
"Drake?" the man asked. "As in Calypso Casinos?"
"I wish."
The bouncer narrowed his eyes then stamped his hand with the invisible ink before Adam went in. A rough looking dude sat behind the counter with several piercings in his face. He waved him over and Adam handed him his paper.
"First time?" the red mohawked gentleman asked.
"Am I that obvious?"
"You got the doe-eyed look of a newbie. Want a preferred name?"
Adam hesitated before the lie rolled off his tongue. "Kai."
"Alright, Kai. Your test results say you are 100% submissive and 80% Brat."
"My mother would say it's more like 95%. But yes, that is what the test results said."
"Okay. My next question is, which team do you play for?"
