"You're kidding me!" Sam shouted into the phone.
"I swear I'm not," Caedance insisted.
"Cady, you're crazy! You're telling me you went home with a hot piece of man and you didn't sleep with him?"
The line at the coffee shop moved up, and Caedance dug in her bag for her rewards card. After Adam dropped her off, she'd taken a bath then slept for five hours before getting ready for work. She had a million things to do before the wedding, and all she could think about was the amazing night she had.
"I'm not crazy, just playing it safe. It wasn't a date or anything. We just talked."
"Is he gay? He has to be gay. Why else wouldn't he jump your bones?"
Oh, she wished he had. As much as she'd protested the idea at the time, she wanted him more than she could express. As soon as she was in the tub that night, she pleasured herself as she recalled the events of their session. Adam's body was incredible. His tattoos were sexy, his physique lean and lithe. Not to mention his business below the waist was perfect. Not too big and not too small.
But she couldn't tell all this to Sam. Her agreement with Adam was private. She hated keeping secrets from her best friend, but she needed to be wise about who she told what since Adam was a well-known businessman in the community.
"He's just a genteman." Her phone beeped. "Hey, Sammy, I gotta go. My assistant is sending me an SOS text."
"Uh oh! Well, have a good day. Call me later. Love you!"
Caedance hung up then ordered her coffee before calling Meg back.
"Thank God!" Meg said without a greeting. "We have an emergency!"
"What's going on?"
"There was a car accident last night. They hit a power line, and Starlight didn't have power until six this morning."
"Oh? Okay, are there electric issues? What's the emergency?"
The server handed her the coffee and Caedance thanked her before leaving.
"Missy Daniels dropped her cake off yesterday, and we had it in the fridge. The frosting is a mess, it melted everywhere. We don't know what to do. The wedding is tonight!"
Caedance paused, closing her eyes. She always had to be the calm and collect one since she was the boss. Freaking out wasn't an option. A solution hit her, and she took a sip of coffee before getting into her car.
"Here's what we're going to do. I'll head over to the bakery and see if Isla can help. She owes me a favor."
"Okay," Meg said, her voice still unsure. "And what should I tell the bride?"
"Tell her to continue as planned. I'll handle this."
She hung up before Meg could ask more questions and headed to the bakery. The year before, Isla's granddaughter booked her wedding at Starlight, but then the house she bought with her fiance flooded and they spent most of their wedding funds on repairs. Caedance gave them as many discounts as possible to make her dream wedding happen on a lower budge, and it turned out to be one of the most beautiful weddings she'd done.
Her phone vibrated as she got to the bakery. She groaned, wondering what else had gone wrong, but she was pleasantly surprised to see it was Adam. He'd sent a text of himself holding a water bottle.
"Good job drinking water," she replied.
"Second bottle of the day. I know you're busy, so I won't bug you. I promise to stay hydrated."
