Adam knew he was probably two drinks shy from needing an Uber, but he ordered another one anyway. He'd put his phone on silent so he wouldn't get an earful from his parents. He skipped Sunday dinner too. The first time in his forty-two years.

The live band playing the stage of Silvers distracted him from the roaring thoughts in his head. He hadn't expected much from Benjamin when he went to discuss the deal, but blackmail? It didn't matter if the customers knew his preferences. They most likely wouldn't care. But his family? The friends and acquaintances on the Rez? Not a chance.

"There you are!" someone said.

Adam groaned at the sound of his brother's voice. "Come to guilt trip me?"

"No. Pops told me to talk some sense into you, but we both know you're not the most sensible man in our family. Talk to me."

Adam finished his drink then ordered another as well as one for Kai. It wasn't smart to spend so much when the business was hurting, but he didn't know how else to cope.

"Benjamin is a class A prick," he said. "End of story."

"Well, duh! He has to be good in bed or something. Why else would Nina let him put a ring on it?"

Adam leaned on his arms on the counter. "I'm not letting pop sell Calypso to him. If we can find someone else, that's fine. I just can't, Kai."

His brother sighed. "Look, we don't have time to look for another buyer. I think . . . we should talk to pops about it. The three of us."

Adam sat up, staring at his brother's face. His brows had furrowed, making him appear much older with lines forming on his face.

"What's going on?" Adam asked. "What else are you hiding from me?"

"Like I said, we should wait and talk to pops--"

"I want to talk now! I'm tired of being in this run-around!"

Before Kai could answer, the door to the bar opened. Two cops came in,and they scanned the room before their eyes fell on Adam.

"Ah, shit. What now?"

"What?" Kai asked.

He turned around just as the officers approached them. Adam was used to police since he used to get hauled to the station all the time on the Rez back in high school and his early twenties.

"Adam Drake?" the first officer asked.

"That's me. What's going on?"

"You're under arrest for assault," the second officer said.

"WHAT!" Kai shouted.

Perfect. of course Benjamin waited a full eight hours before making the call. Did his parents know? Had he sat at their table and eaten their food with a smug look on his face while he waited to hear of the arrest?

"Who's making these accusations?" Kai demanded.

"Kai, it's okay. I'll go peacefully."

Adam stood up, and they cuffed his hands behind his back. A smile formed on his lips as he thought of when Caedance did the same and used the butt plug on him. Too bad she wasn't the one cuffing him now.

"I'm calling Dakota!" Kai said. "We'll take care of this. Just hang tight!"

The officers led him out to the squad car and put him in the back seat. He never thought he'd be in this situation again. He'd given up his trouble-making days a long time ago. But it had been worth it slugging that son of a bitch. He claimed to be family and turned around trying to blackmail him into selling. Never. He wouldn't let his father fall for his fake charm either.
