Adam stood in front of a mirror, smoothing out his suit jacket and checking if anything else was out of place. Today was the wedding day, and he couldn't decide if he was dreading it or excited for his baby sister. They hadn't spoken of the fight or the incident with the cops, and Adam decided it was water under the bridge. If she loved the douchebag, he couldn't change her mind.
The door opened, and Dakota came in. He was putting the finishing touches on his suit. Nina wanted the style to be a combination of traditional Shawnee as well as American so both her and Benjamin's cultures would be represented, but their father would be in full garb complete with a headdress. He would be officiating the ceremony, so Adam had the honor of walking her down the aisle.
"Nice collar," Dakota said.
Adam shushed him. "Careful. I can't have Ma asking questions."
"Oh please. We both know I'm the freaky one in the family."
The door opened again, this time their mother popped in. She was so beautiful in her buckskin dress with purple and blue flowers. Her long hair was in two braids hanging over her shoulders, and she wore her mother's neckless of skystone which she would pass on to Nina at the end of the ceremony.
"My boys look so handsome in their suits." She kissed Dakota's cheek. "Are you ready?"
"No," Adam half-joked.
She shot him a look. "Adamo . . ."
"I know, I'm behaving today. I may not like the dude, but I'm not the one marrying him. He's her problem."
Winona smacked his arm. "You hush. Oh! Is that a new necklace?"
Adam touched the collar, smiling. "Yes. It was a gift from Caedance."
An excited squeal escaped her lips. "I am so happy you two found each other. Perhaps you'll be next down the aisle, no?"
Dakota snorted and Adam gave a light jab to his shoulder.
"You never know. This idiot might finally settle down. Or even Kai."
Her expression became skeptical. "We'll see. I'm going to sit up front. Give your sister a kiss for me."
Dakota and she left, and Adam went down the hall to the room where his sister was getting ready. The ceremony was due to start in fifteen minutes, and everyone else was already lined up. The door was open, so he lightly knocked before entering.
"Is the bride almost ready?"
Nina turned to him, and he took in this sight of his baby sister in her gown. It had one shoulder strap with the fabric criss-crossing over the bodice, and it had a loose skirt that hung to the floor. She had never been over-the-top, but she managed to embody an elegant princess in her simple yet stunning dress. Caedance was in formal attire as well. She wore a dark green high-low dress with lace and a three-quarter sleeve cardigan. Her hair was pinned half up with golden clips.
"I think so," his sister replied.
"She's perfect, isn't she?" Caedance asked.
Adam came further into the room and kissed his sister's cheek. "Couldn't have said it better myself." He then hugged his woman to his side. "And you, My Lady, are far too beautiful. How am I going to pay attention to the ceremony with you dressed like that?"
"Easy, Tiger. I catch your eyes wandering, I will have words with you later."
She gave him a quick kiss before leaving the room. His sister stood up, smoothing her dress, then picked up her bouquet. Her curled hair had feathers matching their mother's dress, and her bouquet had some mixed with the white roses as well.
