Chapter 9

It's been a long day, can't wait to go home to my Katie. My life has finally found a reason to live again.

Paul my partner called me "hey J we've a call! Jumping into d ambulance Paul switches on the sirens," an infant has fallen from a bedroom window, police are on the scene" heading down avenue road , turning on to bachelors lane We see the flashing lights of the squad cars. A cop in the middle of the road directs Paul to the house the little girl is at. There laying on the ground was the little girl, long dark hair a tiny frail body she had her eyes closed you would nearly say she was sleeping if it hadn't been for all the blood

around her tiny frame.

The on call doctor had to sedate the mother to allow the police in to make way for the ambulance she was hysterical gone mad with grief believing her daughter was dead she tried to throw herself I front of police cars in a bad bid to kill herself to be with her daughter the only precious thing she had in her life.

The girl had a weak pulse it's was vital she get to the hospital for treatment it was thought she had trauma to the brain and would need an MRI to be sure. The girl reminded Joel of Gabby they would be of similar age and almost looked alike, he has a strong urge to save her more than his usual patients she seemed more important some how. Rushing back to the hospital the local cops gave them a police escort they also took the girls mum. The trauma room was all set up when Joel and Paul arrived with the little girl. They discovered her name was Lucy Maher her mother was Lorraine Maher who turned out be Joel's ex girlfriend .

The triage doctor and nurses races down the hall to meet Joel and Paul and take Lucy into the trauma room to get started on her tests, they swopped Lucy on to there gurney and took off down a long corridor through a set of double doors. Lorraine ran down after them but they wouldn't let her through they said the best way to help Lucy now was to let the doctors do there thing and they would call her I'd there was any change. Joel walked down to her he didn't know why but he felt he should even though there relationship ended badly, had the roles had been reversed he would appreciate a familiar face even if it was Lorraine.

Joel and Lorraine had a rocky relationship for 3 years he loved and adored her, he wouldn't hear a word said against her, not even when his own mother seen her leaving a hotel with another man he was obviously a client of the firm she worked for. Paul tried to talk to him numerous times of how she tried it on with him, when he finally did get through to him he said he had to be jealous "jealous ?? Of what seriously J even in her sexiest dress she still looks like a tranny ain't no way I'm touching that!"

It was Two weeks later Joel finally copped on to her game, not only was she bedding every man in town she was also slowly emptying Joel's trust fund! She didn't think he'd notice a couple of thousand euros were missing, however he notice all her lavish purchases - diamond rings, car - of course she couldn't afford any of this! When Joel finally got the statement €25,000 had gone! And so had Lorraine.
