'BEEEP!! BEEEEPP!! BEEEEEE-" I slam the 'cancel' button on my phone, turning off the alarm. For gods sake can a girl not get some sleep?
I yawn like an old mama bear with 5 kids and 2 hours of sleep. Sunlight filters softly into my room through the shutters, and creates lines of faded yellow on the wooden floor and light grey walls. My white cashmere blanket from turkey lies on the floor next to the bed, where I must've kicked it whilst in deep sleep, and my brown bear named Dewi is tucked into the crook of my elbow, its face poking out at the top.
Everything seems to be in order as I give my room a quick scan from my position on the bed. My built in wardrobe sits idle, not a thing moved and my hanging chair, which collects dust in the sun, looks ethereal as light hits it at an angle. Dust particles move in sync as the air shifts, like swimmers on display and the green plants near the round window radiate a healthy, lively vibe.
Content, I check the time to see it's 12:21pm. Why did I set an alarm? Usually, I don't set alarms unless I have to wake up for something and at the moment, my amazing memory is failing me.
Like in the movies, I have a lightbulb moment as I realise I have an interview to get to. When I had first arrived in America, I'd wished to get a normal job, therefore had started to look for places accepting work. I was quick to find a small restaurant, the name forgotten, which was asking for staff to work in the kitchen.
When I had found out they had a breakfast bar, my British ass decided I had to see if they offered a good cuppa, to find out they have this weird juice called 'sweet tea'. I refuse to believe that...sugar potion is considered my beloved tea and furthermore, whilst also going for an interview, I'm bringing my Yorkshire tea bags with me (not that I'm sponsored - I'm british I had to).
Now don't get me confused, tea is amazing and all but like every basic bitch, I have to start my day with a cup of coffee. Although it isn't iced, it's coffee and apparently that's all that's needed to consider me basic.
Finally getting my ass up, I stretch, still naked as the day I was plopped out and head towards my bathroom to freshen up. I still cannot believe this is all mine as I look at the pretty bathroom. Yes, I called a bathroom pretty, sue me; it's monochromatic look, pleases my eye. I sigh at my own reflection and begin to go through with my morning routine of brushing my teeth and putting in my honey coloured contacts.
Once feeling slightly more alive, I go to get changed into something formal yet comfortable enough to work in. Eventually, I end up picking a pair of black ripped jeans and a button up white top. To add colour like Gabriel suggested, I choose red sneakers and a matching simple red choker and a black blazer to add formality to the look. My black hair is pulled up into a braided bun, starting off as two braids and becoming a bun as it reaches my neck. I pull out some baby hairs to frame my high cheekbones and apply some lip balm.
At last, I look at myself in the floor length mirror and smile crookedly, I look alright. Noticing the lack of rings in my hands, I put on a couple and check the time. It's currently 12:55pm and I've got 20 minutes until my interview. I have a habit of waking up early for these things, as it means I can get myself a coffee right before it which helps calm down my nerves. Although I can come off as cold and slightly scary, I do have crazy nerves, I'm just better at slapping the little shits down before anyone can notice them.
I stride down the wooden stairs and into the kitchen, my sneakers soundproofing my steps, to see my uncle, who's still in his purple silk robe, eating a bowl of cereal. Too tired to say anything, I grab my lilo and stitch mug and fill it up with black coffee. Precious.
"Good afternoon amor. Why are you so dressed up?" He questions, looking up from his tablet on the kitchen table. He raises one eyebrow, something I've noticed my grandmother, my mum and I do too. I finish my mug in two gulps and sigh in satisfaction. Nothing beats a good cup of energy first thing after you wake up.
