"Samuel," I turned and faced the voice that was summoning my attention placing the hardback book I was previously reading against my desk.

"Yes father?" I questioned tilting my head slightly to the side and moving a hand to push the glasses further up my nose.

"Have you learnt your lesson?" He spoke harshly, his arms crossed firmly together and eyes staring me down. I sent a single nod his way clasping my hands together in front of me refusing to break eye contact.

"Yes father, I'll stay away from the elements," I smiled softly as he sent a nod my way uncrossing his own arms.

"You're free to leave Samuel." He muttered forming a huge smile on my face. In an instant I pushed my body out the chair and across the floor stopping a few steps away from him. He sighed gently before pulling me into a hug. "We do if for your safety Sam," he whispered.

"I know father," I whispered back, wrapping my own arms around him. I knew he was deeply stuck in the mindset elements were bad, both him and mother were but I weren't. I saw something in Colby they have never seen, and that's kindness and protectiveness.

"Now get to the bookstore son. Im sure Sarah has plenty of new books for you to read, also stay out till late we have a few people coming over for tea. For business that you're not needed for." I sent father a nod before slipping my shoes on and sliding out the room, practically running down the stairs.

After a quick bye to mother and a swing of the door the cool breeze hit me making me sigh happily. The cobblestone path leading to the main road clattered slightly everytime I took a step, the loose single pieces of rocks flying from the force of my feet. People happily walked around smiling as I waved at them missing their company.

I walked the familiar path towards the bookstore pushing open the baby pink door as I reached the building.

"Sam!" Sarah Called out brushing the stray grey hairs out her face. Sarah was an older woman with pale skin and grey toned hair that was constantly in a loose bun. Thin glasses were perched on her nose and a soft expression was permanently on her face.

"Sarah," I cheered out smiling at the older woman before heading over to the new book section moving some out the way until one of them caught my eye. The story of night and day.

"Where you been dear?" Sarah walked over moving books to the side as I gripped the story of night and day in my free hand.

"I was busy reading Sarah," I lied shaking my head and skimming through the hardback book.

"Sam, dear, I know you've read every single book in this store!" She explained throwing her hands in the air. "And you never came in for the new ones so what really happened?" She placed her hand gently on my shoulder looking up at me slightly.

"I got caught seeing the elements Sarah, and you know how my parents are..." I trailed off closing my eyes.

"You and your parents old folk law. Let me guess, all elements are bad," she laughed, her laugh echoing off all the walls.

"You know it," I laughed back.

"They aren't bad people Sammy," she placed her hand on my shoulder "trust me on that,"

"I know they aren't Sarah, I've met one of them," I felt my face flare up at the thought of Colby entered my mind.

"He must be special," she smiled softly at me making me nod.

"I think he really is Sarah. But how did you know it's a him?"

"It's obvious Sammy, I must be blind not to see it. Plus it's a well known fact the only single one is a male." She explained making me blush harder.

"It's something that will never happen," I whispered running a finger across the spine of the book.

"You can keep that Sam," Sarah mused looking down at the book.

"No I couldn't-," I explained as she shook her head.

"Sam it's fine. We have another copy of that book anyway," she waved her hand down at me smiling. "Plus you haven't put that down since you walked in and usually you're constantly changing books."

"I guess I'm just drawn to it." I whispered pushing my glasses further up my nose as they slipped slightly. I let my eyes wonder from Sarah to the book in my hands. The orangey toned leather book with a single moon and sun outline on the cover. Accents of gold were dotted around like stars in the night sky and clouds in the daytime giving more of a feel to night and day.

"Sarah," I called out as she turned to walk away. "I was being serious. Nothing can happen between me and Colby, I know he has to be with another element."

"Never say never Samuel," she called back out to me before disappearing out the back. I gripped the book to my chest before turning and leaving the building walking out the pale pink door and hearing the bell jingle above me. I glanced down at the book noticing how it shimmered and seem to shine more then it did inside the building.

"Oh my!" A voice called out making my head shoot up and tilt to the side when seeing a blue haired girl staring at me wide eyed.

"Can I help you?" I asked her, shifting awkwardly from side to side. Her eyes were locked on the book now securely gripped to my chest making me step back scared she was after it.

"No!" She blurted out "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you," she muttered "just, I've never seen you before," she raised an eyebrow at me stepping forward.

"Yeah, I get that a lot recently," I replied moving the book to my hand holding it down at my side.

"What's that?" She pointed a manicured hand down at the book making me look down at it quickly before looking back at her.

"My new book?" I muttered "it's meant to be really good and I don't know I'm interested in it,"

"What's it called?"

"The story of night and day," I quickly replied making her gasp quietly.

"I have to go," she called out walking past me quickly her hands pulling out her phone.

"Wait! Who are you?" I called out to her making her momentarily stop.

"I'm Katrina. Katrina Stuart."
