Usually this trip shows up when the female main character is spotted hanging out with another male besides her love interest. And the guy gets jealous and "overprotective" and confront the two. And bam! The female says that the guy she's been talking to is not into women and that her boyfriend shouldn't be jealous......... convenient I must say.
It sorta implies that a straight man can't be friends with a straight female. Because they might hookup later. Mmmmmmmm I don't like that. Let's kill that trope shall we. Thanks
