Chapter 16: All In My Head

Chloe's POV:

"What do you think she'll like to wear?, I would have asked her but I want it to be a surprise" mum asked again. She's been bothered about our....I mean Zoe's birthday that is coming up, she doesn't know what to get her and she feels that I'll come up with a suggestion for her.

"I don't know mum, Zoe is quite picky" I answer taking a seat on the living room couch

"I'm not surprised you don't know, you don't know anything about your own twin sister, what am I even going to use you for?" She questions sitting opposite me with disgust clear in her voice but I ignored her

"But do you at least know her favorite color?" She questions again

"No mum, she doesn't talk to me about that sorta stuff quite much but I think she's into blue" I answer uninterested

"Think?, if you keep 'thinking' then how on Earth would we get a gift for your sister?" she asked and that was when I got angry, I don't really like the way she's talking like it's Zoe's birthday Solo, I'm also involved here

"We?, who is this we you are talking about?, you do know it's also my birthday right?, when was the last time you got me a birthday gift?, why do I always have to follow you every year to get Zoe a birthday present when I don't even get one myself? Why do you keep doing this?, you always put Zoe first and........"

"Anyways I'm going to the market, I understand what my child needs, I don't need to ask you" she says before getting up and walking out of the apartment and it was then I realized that I didn't really stand up to her, it was all in my head.

I'm not surprised she was acting that way now, that has been happening since I was born, I only get gifts from dad only when he's in town and mum doesn't ever get me anything, not even a simple 'Happy Birthday'. I used to feel hurt about it when I was a little girl but I'm kind of used to if now, it doesn't really bother me anymore.

I got up from the couch and went upstairs to get my phone, no missed calls, no text messages, not like I was expecting to get some from Alec or anything......
I don't know if I should call him or not... I should probably not, for all I know, he may be busy.

I decide to watch some TV when I heard my phone ring. I picked it up and looked at the caller ID 'Idiot😑'.

Why would Eric be calling me now? I shouldn't answer it right?, I'm gonna answer it

"Hello"

"Hey there Chloe, how's it going?, I just wanted to talk to you, I know that last time I told you that, it didn't end well but trust me, nothing like that is going to happen this time, Zoe doesn't know we are meeting up today, I made sure of it, in fact she's out shopping for her birthday today, I just want to share a few words with you and....."

"Words?, you want to share words with me?, do you realize how you sound right now?, Zoe doesn't know we are meeting up because you made sure of that?, so I have to hide from your wife now before I meet with you?, you do realize that I'm your wife's sister and not your mistress, huh?"

"That's not what I meant at all, I just wanted to see you and maybe take you shopping, I know your mum won't get you anything for your birthday so why don't you just come with me and I'll buy anything you want, it would be my treat" he answers back and I could literally see his proud smile at the other end of the line

"No thanks, I don't need anything from you, rather give it to your precious wife" I answered back proudly, I can't believe I just said that to Eric, I'm really getting a hang of this 'standing up for yourself thingy'. Yeah especially when you're saying it all I your head like you did today with you mother,  my subconscience reminds me but as usual, I ignored her

"Stop talking like that I don't mean to........"

"Are you fucking stupid?" I heard someone shout in the background and next thing, the call was ended

Zoe's POV:

"............it didn't end well but trust me, nothing like that is going to happen this time, Zoe doesn't know we are meeting up today, I made sure of it, in fact she's out shopping for her birthday today, I just want to share a few words with you and" who on Earth is Eric talking to? And why did he lie to the person that I'm going shopping today?, and why does the person care about my whereabouts?, is he thinking of hanging out with Chloe again?

"That's not what I meant at all, I just wanted to see you and maybe take you shopping, I know your mum won't get you anything for your birthday so why don't you just come with me and I'll buy anything you want, it would be my treat" he said again to the idiot on the other end of the phone which I know is obviously Chloe, she's stupid enough to still keep contact with him after what we did to her, she's also stupid enough to think that Eric is going to take her shopping, he doesn't even have a job. I have to stop his train of lies before he gets in her head again.

"Stop talking like that I don't mean to........"

"Are you fucking stupid?" I asked walking up to him angrily before throwing his phone letting it hit the wall and the screen shattered into pieces.
