Draco

Today was just a normal day of classes. Same old bloody teachers and same old aggravating classmates. I had better things to do than be in this hell hole. Walking to Potions, followed by Crabbe, Goyle, and Blaise by my side, I was thinking about how ghastly Snape's long face was, and how he always managed to sneak up on me unexpectedly. God I hate Snape. Always up my arse. But thankfully, Snape wasn't teaching Potions this year. Slughorn was. But I found that he was even worse, as he was practically in love with Potter.

I shoved a few second years out of the way as I entered the Potions classroom, finding myself glaring at many familiar faces, including the one I despised most. And no, I don't mean Potter. I mean Cardaillet. Clarissa Cardaillet. I had never spoken to her before, until she made her first impression on me on the train. I'd seen her around but she didn't really talk to anyone. Kept to herself, in a way. But unfortunately, she sat in front of me in Potions, and to be honest I stared at her a lot. As much as I didn't want to admit, she was gorgeous. Not even sure why though, as her hair was curly, but very frizzy, and she never wore any makeup. She didn't seem like she bothered to take care of herself, which was the complete opposite of my type. I liked cleanliness, and lavishness.

Today, in Potions, we learned about Amortentia, the love potion. Slughorn had us step up, one by one, to describe what it smelled like to us, as it was different to everybody based off of what they found attractive. I watched as Pansy stepped up, and claimed that hers smelled like "mint and apples". Merlin's Beard, of course. Pansy is such a clingy git, it's beyond annoying. Just like Snape, she's always up my arse. Cardaillet was ahead of me in line, so she went right before me. I listened closely.

"Well, erm", she paused, as she brushed her hair over her shoulder and leaned into the pot, "I smell my perfume. Professor, what does that mean?" She questioned in her subtle French accent. It was lowkey sexy. But I would never admit to that.

"Well, Miss Cardaillet, that means that you have self-obsession and crave power. If you would like to know, I believe that is what Voldemort, or Tom Riddle smelled when he was at Hogwarts", Slughorn rambled in his nasally voice. Everybody shuddered when he spoke the name of You-Know-Who. She stepped back with wide eyes, and everybody froze until Slughorn said, "However, the scent can change over time to you depending on people you create relationships with." She went back to her desk, with a smug look on her face. Not only was I confused, but I was concerned, too. Out of all of the people in this school, she was the least I expected to "crave power and self-obsession". I guess I'd just have to figure that out. Now, it was my turn.

I walked over to the big cauldron, filled with the bubbling, glistening liquid. I leaned over the pot, careful not to dip my robes in it by accident, and inhaled the scent that the Amortentia gave off. Shocked, I froze. I smelled lilies. The scent of a field of lilies in the rain. It couldn't be true, I had only known her for a day. No, no, no, no, no. The only person I had met in my life that smelled like lilies was Clarissa. I decided I had to lie.

"Malfoy, speak", Slughorn sternly spoke from across the room.

"Erm, I smell parchment. And quills." I nodded my head, feeling guilty as ever, and walked back to my seat. I got another whiff of Clarissa's perfume as I went to sit behind her, at the back of the class with the rest of the Slytherins. Lilies. Not that I cared or anything.

I sat, bored out of my mind, as the rest of the students in the line finished up at the cauldron. Finally, the class was over, and sighing, I walked out of the class with my, as Cardaillet quoted, "minions". I rammed a random fourth year girl into the wall after they tried to push me out of the way, and I had my wand to her chin. Out of nowhere, Cardaillet popped up next to the girls side, drawing her wand to my neck.

"Listen here, Malfoy, I've had enough of you. First, you threaten me, push me, treat me like shit, and then proceed to do the same to this girl. Sod off you bastard, go off with your own crowd of dipshits."

She spat in my face, before I could say, "Wanna test that, Cardaillet?". I smirked at her, her wand inching up to my chin. "Go back to your own damn country", I glared at both of them. I withdrew my wand from the random girl's chin, and turned on my heel to leave.

"Petrificus Totalus!" She yelled from behind me, paralyzing me as my friends watched in horror. I went stiff, and fell to the floor, my friends too scared to pick me back up. "Scram, you idiots", she spat at Crabbe, Goyle, and Pansy. "I won't hesitate." She raised her eyebrow and took her sister's hand as she walked away. "That goes for you too, Malfoy", she barked from down the hallway.

That evening, as we all sat down at the Slytherin table in the Great Hall, I sat with Crabbe, Goyle, Blaise, and unfortunately Pansy by my side. Cardaillet was sat at the other end of the table from me, as far as possible. She, to my surprise, was chatting with a few other girls from our year, Millicent Bulstrode and Daphne Greengrass. Daphne's hair looked a lot like mine, as it had that bleach blonde colour. She was pretty quiet as well, but I couldn't say the same for her sister. Loud. In bed. Astoria was one of my hookups at the end of fourth year. I got a lot of hoes at Hogwarts, and she was one of them. I watched them talking, and when I saw Clarissa laugh, I felt a wave of lust go through my chest. Butterflies, even. What the hell was wrong with me. I suppose it was only because she never smiled or laughed, so it came as a surprise. "Ow!" I felt a sharp pang on my face as a hand struck it.

"Oy, Malfoy, snap out of it!", Blaise spat at me, as he noticed me staring at Clarissa and her friends. I saw her look over from the corner of my eye after Blaise rose his voice. We accidentally made eye contact, so I quickly snapped my head back to my end of the table. Though it had only felt like seconds, I realized I had zoned out for way too long, as everybody started getting up from their seats to go back to the dorms. Damn. I hadn't eaten anything the entire time, and my stomach ached. I think I had some chocolate frogs back in my dorm, so I figured I'd eat that as my dinner.

As I walked into the common room, with most of the other Slytherins already in bed, I heard from behind me, "Hey, Malfoy, figured you'd want this". I turned around, only to see the face of Clarissa Cardaillet, holding a muffin in her hand. "Here", she said, as she chucked the muffin into my hands.

"Er, thanks." I muttered to her, trying to keep it cool.

"See you 'round", she said, as she walked to the girls dormitories.

"Mhm", I said under my breath. I went to sit on the couch in the common room, to compose myself. Cmon, Draco, I thought to myself, You have to decide. Friends or enemies?  To be fair, we had acted like enemies ever since the train, as she was practically the only person in our year who had ever stood up to me, which was bold of her. However, she sparked something in me, something exciting. She gave me butterflies, and I remembered the Potions lesson today with the Amortentia. Her perfume.

I guess I'd just sleep on it.
