Clarissa

After last week at the Gryffindor party, my popularity grew. But that wasn't necessarily a good thing. Though I was idolized by the younger years, and talked to a lot more by the girls in my year, it also meant that I was becoming more popular than Draco Malfoy. He was furious that someone else was getting the attention. So as a result, he would do little things to try to make himself look better, such as stepping on the heels of my shoes and tripping me, or shoving me in the halls. The thing is, I let him do it. For one reason and one reason only. I didn't want attention drawn to myself today, because I had a task.

I was sneaking around Hogwarts one night, and decided to go to the Restricted Section of the library. I stole a book called Magical Artifacts. I didn't pick it at random though, I had a suspicion. I saw Potter lurking one night down the halls with a piece of parchment, so I followed him. I was far enough to keep a distance, but I got a glimpse of the parchment's inside. It was moving, and it appeared to be a map of Hogwarts. Potter looked very paranoid, so I assumed it was something he didn't want anyone to see. Knowing who he was associated with, I knew it had to be special. So, I wanted to find out what it was.

After reading Magical Artifacts, I determined that it was a one-of-a-kind object called the Marauders Map, and I wanted it. That way, I could see where everyone was whenever I wanted. Obviously, because it was such an object, I knew he wouldn't just give it up. I had to steal it.

To steal it from Potter, I knew I needed to be in the right place at the right time. I figured he would keep it with the rest of his belongings in the Gryffindor Tower, so I had to go when no one else was around. Dinner.

————————-

That night at Dinner, I got up with the excuse of "going to the toilet", which was pretty believable. Once I was out of the public eye, I picked up my pace, as the Gryffindor entrance was on the seventh floor, and the Great Hall was only on the first. I whispered to the Fat Lady the password, Mimbulus Mimbletonia, and to my surprise she barked, "Well, what's a Slytherin like you doing trying to get into Gryffindor?"

"Erm, just visiting a friend, miss." I mumbled, trying to be discreet.

"Hm. Alright then", the Fat Lady replied to my relief. I exhaled and scrambled into the boy's dormitories. I had no clue whose room was whose, but I kept my eye out for that piece of parchment. I knew Potter shared a dorm with Ron, as they were best mates, which allowed me to find Potter's dorm as soon as I saw the ugly maroon sweaters with the R and H on the beds. Perfect.

I rustled through the stack of papers on his desk, and went through all of the pockets in his clothes, the map nowhere to be found. I checked under his pillows, and through his trunk. Nope. Frustrated, I sat on his bed fidgeting my wand. Okay. What would Potter do? Damn, how would I even know, I'm a bloody Slytherin. Erm... OH. I know.

"Accio Marauder's Map!" I whispered, remembering the spell I learned when Pansy lost her pen in Defense Against the Dark Arts. The piece of parchment flew out from between a robe and a book, landing on my lap. Now, I had to get out discreetly without anyone, especially Harry Potter or his friends, seeing me. I ran out of the dorms, through the common room, and busted through the door. All of a sudden, I heard the chatter of students coming up the hall, on their way back from the Great Hall. Shit. How was I supposed to get all the way to the dungeons if I were on the seventh floor without being seen? I could apparate, but I knew Dumbledore had enchantements and protection spells placed on Hogwarts. In case I was seen, I slid the Marauder's Map in a pocket inside my robe.

"Hey, Clarissa, what are you doing up here?", a deep voice from behind me said, coming closer. I flinched, and turned, only to see Cormac McLaggen. Great, just who I needed to see.

"Oh, erm, I was just looking for a friend. I'll be on my way, I guess. Lovely to see you, bye!" I said as I walked away from him, picking up my pace, leaving Cormac looking confused.

"Wait, Clarissa, hold on!", I heard from behind me, as I ran away, down the stairs. I needed to get back to my dorm without running into anyone else.

That night, at 11:00pm, after everyone had gone to bed, I pulled out my wand and the map under my covers to see who was sneaking out. "Lumos". I knew how to open the map after reading Magical Artifacts, so I whispered "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good", and the map transformed before my eyes. The map of Hogwarts revealed, and I could see everyone. Filch was lurking on the second floor, and I saw Snape on the third. Weird. However, I saw one person, in the Potions classroom, who surprised me the most. Malfoy. What the hell was he doing in the Potions Classroom? He also hated Snape, so why risk going in there? I had to figure out why, and there was only one way.

I stormed into the Potions Classroom, startling him. He was standing, trying to look as innocent as possible, next to the wall of bottles. "So, Malfoy, come here often?" I retorted. He rolled his eyes at me.

"Prefect duty, Cardaillet, you wouldn't understand", he spat, approaching me. "Anyways, what's a good girl like you doing lurking the halls at night? I'm sure Filch would just love to pay you a visit."

"Watch your mouth, Malfoy", I stepped back. He stepped forward, and smirked.

"You know, Cardaillet, as a Prefect I'm going to have to punish you for this", he said cheekily. My heart began to race, and I felt the adrenaline rush through my body. He rose his wand, and I knew I was in danger. I heard rumors at lunch that Dumbledore had reversed the spell that prohibited apparation, so it was worth a shot. With the swish of my wand, I apparated back to my dorm. Relieved, I fell onto my bed, exhaling. I had escaped Malfoy, or so I thought, as I heard a familiar voice from from the outside of my room whisper,

"Alohomora".
