Chapter Fifty-Nine: Ellie {Cole}
Two Days Later
I pace in silence, a constant feeling of dread, anger, and pain mixing in my body. Like a volcano, I'm on the edge of erupting, on the edge of exploding with emotions and losing my entire fucking mind.
Scarlet sits on the couch, fingers biting at her fingernails as she taps her foot, clearly sitting on the fine line of insanity just like I am. Sebastian sits on the couch, face grave as he plays with his fingers, eyes devoid of emotion. Taylor sits beside him, head leaned on his shoulder.
Mr. and Mrs. King sit on the couch as well, but they're no better than any of us right now.
For the millionth time, I run everything over in my head, praying I notice something different this time, something that could help us find her.
__________
Holding the bag of food in my hands, I open the door, quickly entering and sitting it on the dresser. As I look around the room, I pause. Steam and heat spreads from the bathroom, telling me Ellie's taken a shower.
I quickly divert my train of thoughts.
Ellie's way too sore to be doing anything for a little while.
It's silent, so I guess she might not have heard me come in. Now would be a great chance to surprise her, so with a smile and giddy feeling in my chest, I take slow steps forward, careful to remain quiet.
The crunch of something beneath my feet gets my attention, and I look down.
At first, I don't realize what it is - the mangled piece of metal and glass.
But when I do, my stomach drops. Like someone's thrown a sheet over me, dread coats me. I race to the bathroom, my heart pounding as I call her name. Silence has me opening the door. There's still steam in the bathroom, telling me she was in here recently, but yet the bathroom remains empty.
The entire room is empty.
What the fuck?
"Ellie!"
Silence.
I race for Scarlet's room, banging on the door. She opens it, eyes squinted in the light, clearly having just woken.
"Jesus, Cole. What's wrong?"
"Ellie's gone," I breathe.
Saying the word aloud sends me into a fit of panic, and I go back across, looking everywhere in the room; beneath the bed, in the shower, in the closets. But she's no where to be found. Her clothes remain in the room, her phone broken on the floor.
"Goddammit!" I curse loudly, my mind slipping into pure and total panic and agony.
She's gone.
She's missing.
Ellie's gone!
Fuck!
__________
The ringing of the phone on the coffee table grabs my attention, and I find myself frozen, only able to stare as Sebastian almost falls off the couch with how quickly he moves to answer it. He puts it on speaker.
"Mr. King?" the familiar voice asks, Detective Ingrid asks.
"Yeah," Sebastian's voice is hesitant, terrified. We're all terrified of the truth.
"We've completed our investigation of the hotel room. It appears that there has been some foul play involved. You spoke of a man named Keenan, and that he'd been harassing Ms. Robinson for some time now?" He confirms again, but it's like water rushes over my ears.
