Chapter Sixty-Four: Marry Me, Ellie {Ellie}
For the rest of the day, I'm too terrified to even move the wrong way. I keep to myself, my thoughts overwhelming as anxiety bounces around in my head. Surely, there's no way I could be pregnant.
Condoms break, Ellie. And there was that one time almost three months ago ago in our hot tub when we'd gotten a little carried away and forgotten about protection completely.
Fuck, what is Cole gonna think?
We sit at dinner, around the firepit on the beach. It's been a full day of pure anxiousness at this point and I'm not sure I can handle much more without talking to Cole about my suspicions.
Finally, I break, turning to him and speaking lowly. "We need to talk about something."
He makes a strange face, one I can't read. "Can it wait until tonight, baby?"
A shot of hurt goes through me, but I ignore it, nodding and trying to give him a smile. One of the things about Cole I both love and hate the most is his ability to read me. The very second that the fake smile crosses my lips, he notices, and his brows furrow.
"Are you okay?" I nod. He looks unsure, but lets it go nonetheless.
Sebastian clears his throat across the fire, raising a single brow at Cole, who takes a deep breath, standing suddenly. I frown, watching him in confusion as he pulls me to stand with him. Scarlet shrugs as our eyes meet, just as dumbfounded as I am.
"Ellie," Cole begins. "I... I don't really know how to do this, but..." He takes another deep breath, a smile crossing his lips. "I had a whole speech planned, but I can't remember a single fucking word of it."
Sebastian snorts, and Asher shoves him playfully.
"I love you," Cole's gray eyes meet mine in the dim light. "And I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Ellie. We've been through some really tough shit together, and I almost lost you. I... I never want to risk that again, not without you knowing how I truly feel about you."
My brain stops working as Cole drops down on one knee.
"I wouldn't be where I am today without you. You believed in me, you supported me... Fuck, Ellie, you're my everything."
He produces a ring from his pocket, the diamond shining in the moonlight as he looks up at me.
I can't help the tears that rush to my eyes, my heart pounding as happiness practically numbs me.
Cole looks nervous as all get out, his chest heaving slightly as he looks into my eyes, his own steel-colored orbs filled with anticipation.
"Words could never express how much I really love you... So I'm hoping actions will. Marry me, Ellie." His voice shakes, but at the same time, he holds a determination there. Completely enrapturing me, I try to find my voice.
Yes, Cole.
A million times, yes!
Yet, all I can do is nod.
It doesn't seem to register for him for a second, before he lets out a heavy sigh, clearly relieved. And then I'm in his arms, a startled and excited squeal of excitement escaping me as he stands, spinning me.
"I love you," I press my lips to his, tears slipping from my eyes.
"I love you, Ellie. I love you so fucking much."

"You don't have to take it now, you know?" Scar asks. "You can wait until we get home. Enjoy the rest of the trip, enjoy some more time with Cole..." I nod, sighing. Alexander begins stirring in my lap, and I bounce him softly, the three-month-old laying his head against my chest as he pouts.
