Chapter Three: What A Fucking Nerd {Cole}
One Week Later
"Ask Ellie to come," Sebastian says as he stuffs another handful of fries into his mouth.
"I think she's got an assignment due tomorrow. She was telling me about it earlier." She takes a sip of her drink, glancing toward me. "Speaking of talking to Ellie, Cole needs to stop being such a dick to her." I resist an eye roll, Scarlett's angry eyes warning me against it.
"He's not being an asshole, he's just being Cole." Sebastian shrugs and this time, I do roll my eyes.
"I'm serious. She's got enough shit to deal with. Stop being a dickhead to Ellie." I sigh, taking a bite of my burger and ignoring her. She drones on to Sebastian about something, but I don't listen. It's doesn't matter, though, because the blonde-headed nuisance has already made her way into my brain.
Ever since that night at the club, things have been weird around the King siblings.
I feel like an outsider, even though I'm closer to these two siblings than anyone else in the universe. But then... she shows up. Out of fucking nowhere.
The image of her dancing in the club flashes through my brain, making me grit my teeth. She doesn't fit in with them. She doesn't belong with them. They're picture perfect, and she's... not. Her curves are sexy sure, but she's no supermodel like Scarlett.
"Hey," Scarlett says, smiling as she raises her phone to her ear. "What's up?"
Without asking, I know she's talking to the blonde one. As I glance at Scarlett's phone, I think back to the day they moved into the new house. Ellie looked like she'd seen a ghost, standing in the middle of the hallway like a fucking statue. I remember her eyes misting up before she took off to the bathroom, Scarlett chasing her.
And then in the kitchen... She got on her phone and then she stopped eating. Hell, I'd seen her eat before, seen her eat at the club. She ate a ton. But that morning, she stopped herself. It was easy to tell she was hungry; I could her hear stomach growling from next to her. But she still put her plate up and ran off, Scarlett chasing her once again.
I frown.
What are you hiding, Eleanor?
"Yes, I will buy you a new book if you come to the match," Sebastian chuckles as Scarlett grins, still speaking to Ellie on the phone. I roll my eyes as he glances at me.
What a fucking nerd.
"I'm going to get ready," I tell them both, heading to my car without waiting for a response. The drive to my flat is short; I leave the car running while I run inside and change into my sweatpants and t-shirt.
I don't stay in inside a second longer than I have to.
I get a few rounds in, working on the punching bag while waiting for the match to start, the arena filling quickly and the crowd growing louder as they wait for the main event. Sebastian laughs loudly as he enters the locker room, both girls following him.
"Hey, man. You ready?" he asks. I nod, grabbing my shorts and heading into the bathroom to change. The blue shorts hang lower on my hips, but I don't mind, they're more comfortable that way, rather than being up high. When I exit, Sebastian has my gloves waiting. Scarlett plays on her phone and Ellie sits on the couch, hands in her lap as she looks around the room.
She almost looks like a little kid.
Sebastian puts the tape on my wrists and then gloves them, letting me stretch a bit before the match begins. Someone knocks, and Sebastian calls out to them, confirming that we're ready. We all make our way to the door, and he talks to Scarlett quickly, grabbing his own things for the ringside.
