Chapter Sixty-One: I Survived You {Cole}

Three Weeks Later

"Keep him back!" the EMT screams, shoving me back with one hand. Sebastian, a sheriff, and a deputy pull at me, trying to tear me from her. She lies on the stretcher, eyes blank as she stares at the ceiling. One EMT pushes the stretcher into the ambulance, racing around to get into the driver's seat.

"Cole, stop!" Sebastian pleads as I break free, getting into the ambulance. Two paramedics, Ellie, and myself are all in the cramped space. She doesn't look at me. She doesn't even blink.

Wrong.

Wrong.

Wrong.

Something's wrong!

I have to crouch in the short space, but I remain standing, my back hunched as I look at Ellie.

Asher follows me in, working with the EMT. Suddenly, he's sitting on her, right on top of the wound and placing his hands on her chest. He forces her chest downward, over and over and over.

"Get him out of here! We have to go! Now!"

I reach for Ellie's hand, her face still painfully blank.

And then I'm yanked back, slammed hard on the ground as the doors close behind me. As quickly as they arrived, they speed away. I can't see her as they leave, only Asher sitting on her, continuing compressions on her chest.

Pure terror grips my bones as she disappears from me. I turn, spotting Keenan's uncle face down on the ground, cuffed and cussing loudly. My blood runs ice cold when I see an officer tending to Keenan.

I can't stop myself.

I stalk up, shoving the officer off of him and slamming my fists into his face once more. He only sputters, most of his teeth gone and his face covered in thick crimson. Each hit splashes his blood upwards, all over me and the officer I shoved away.

And then a thousand volts of lightning shoot through me, stopping me in my tracks. I fall off of him stiffly, sucking in a breath as the electricity stops finally. Fuck, I realize. They tased me.

I'm turned to my stomach, arms pulled behind my back as the officer cuffs me quickly. The cold metal is a wake-up call, and I look around, confused.

"I'm sorry, Cole," Sebastian says, breathing harshly.

Blood leaks from his lip, as well as his eyebrow. It seems he caught a few of my hits as well.

"What the fuck?" I ask. "Let me go! I have to go to her!"

"I can't let you do that right now, son," the officer speaks. "Let them save her. If you get in their way again, she could die."

Hot tears flow down my face, and I let them, resting on the concrete below me. My entire form aches from the electricity they just shot through it.

"Come on, son," the officer tells me, pulling me to my knees. Kneeling on the ground, I stay still, looking around at the aftermath.

I see his body lying a good ways away, unconscious still.

Did I kill him?

I hope I did.

"Send medical," another officer speaks. "Two suspects in custody. I've detained one civilian. Requesting for back up and a second medical transport."
