“I’m going to die, Lucy.” I was currently helping Luke nurse his hangover. He hardly ever drinks and last night he had around 9 or 10 shots. Ashton was in the kitchen making coffee and Calum and I were seated on Luke’s leather couch. I set a damp cloth on his forehead and he smiled.

“You’d make a hot nurse, Lucy.”

“That’d better be the hangover talking,” I jeered.

Ashton handed him the coffee and we all settled on the long sofa watching reruns of House of Cards.

“Am I the only one who thinks Kevin Spacey is hot for an old dude, “Ashton commented and I laughed.

“Yes.”

Eventually, Cal and Luke fell asleep practically on top of each other and Ashton and I sat watching the TV quietly. Ashton’s phone started ringing beneath him. He slipped it out of his back pocket, checked the ID, and groaned.

“Who is it?”

“My lawyer.”

“Are you on probation or something?” I asked.

“Worse, I’m gonna be deported soon.”

“Why? What’d you do?”

“I got a 2 year conditional permanent resident status and I can’t afford to renew it. My lawyer was trying to find a loophole yesterday but there’s nothing she can do, I have to go back to Australia. And I just know that’s what she’s calling to tell me.”

Hm. I didn’t really know what to think of the situation. It sucked but who wanted to stay in America when they could live in Australia? Maybe my opinion was a little biased because I’d lived here my entire life and never been to Australia.

“Why do you want to stay here?”

“America is so optimistic about anything; you can be and do anything here. And I don’t know, I never really liked Australia.”

I nodded. “Just answer it, maybe she found something.”

He slides the lock and answers the call. “Please tell me you found something,” he looks at me while he says this. I smile, hopeful for him.

“Oh, um-““At least it’s something… yeah, maybe” “Yeah, difficult but possible” “Okay, thank you”

“So?” I asked.

“She only found one thing; I have to marry a US citizen.”
