~KABANATA XV~

The cloud are dark and the rain won't stop dropping off. The wild waves are making a loud aggressive noises. The drops from the rain are soaking the veranda.

I closed the glass door to prevent to get wet the floor inside. I let out a deep sighs before walking back to the kitchen.

“Ma'am, we checked the perimeter in this land. Clean.” I nodded at one of the forces.

Ang iba ay nakasilip sa mga bintana ng mansion. Pinapasok ko muna sila dahil sa lakas ng ulan. I asked them if there's coming typhoon. Wala naman daw.

Naabutan ko naman sila Ate Jessa at Budang sa loob ng kusina. Sila ang naglilinis dito sa loob ng ilang taon na wala kami. Mom giving them a salary every month for taking care of this rest house.

And also, Budang's father are one of those farmers whose using my grandparents land for farming. I'm two years older than her. While ate Jessa is in late forties.

“Ate Shane! Malapit na itong maluto na ginataang bilo-bilo. Nakain ba ng ganito ang mga kasama mo?” Salubong sa akin ni Budang mismong pag-pasok ko.

“Oo, bakit naman hindi? ” I chuckled before answering her question.

“Aba! Malay ko ba d'yan kay Budang. Kinukulit nga ako dahil baka daw hindi magustuhan ng mga bisita mo at nung asawa mo. Gusto ko ng ngang hampasin ng sandok.” Sabi naman ni ate Jessa.

Umakmang hahampasin ni ate Jessa si Budang samantala, ngumuso si Budang habang hina-halo ang niluluto.

“Malay ko naman kung nakain ng ganito ang mga kasama ni ate Shane, lalo pa at mga taga-siyudad! Eh 'yung asawa pa nga lang n'ya ay mukhang banyaga. Nakita mo ba yung mata ate Jessa? Mga berde! Hindi ko akalain na nagt-tagalog nga. Hindi pa naman ako handa ma-nose bleed.”

I laughed so hard because of her answer. But stopped when suddenly I realized the one word from her.

Asawa...

I've been introduce him as my husband to them. The task force knew it. And introduced the task force as my guests from the city.

I'm thankful that they didn't ask me again. I know they confused on the task force, like it's my guest then why they acting like my guards.

Ang alam lang nila ay on leave ako para sa nalalapit na fiesta. At isinama ko ang aking ‘asawa’ at mga kaibigan ko kuno'.

“Don't worry, they'll eat anything you will give to them. Besides, they don't have any choice.”

She nodded, still pouting. I helped ate Jessa to ready the bowls and spoons we'll use afterwards ready the tables and chairs.

The dining table is huge and long. While waiting the food, we talk about my whereabouts since I left Saraiya.

“Magsabi ka naman ate Shane tungkol sa inyo ng asawa mo—” Natigilan si Budang sq pagsasalita ng makitang papalapit sa amin si Master.

Dahil may kukuhanin ito sa refrigerator ay nanuot sa ilong ko ang mabango nitong amoy. He smell so good, so manly. Dahil malapit ako sa kanya at nasa kabilang door lang ako ng refrigerator, kitang-kita ko ang Adam's apple nito.

Kumuha ito ng tubig at nauna ng naupo sa hapag. Nilingon ko naman ang dalawang kausap kanina. Mukhang nahiya at bumalik sa dating gagawin.

Ako naman ay lumapit kay Master at naupo sa tabi nito.

“Are you hungry? You woke up late.” Usisa ko dito.

He shrugged and lay his head on my shoulder. I stiffened because of what he did.
