Katherine's POV
I walked into the main computer hub to find Jace, Clary, and Simon standing around arguing. Simon was being his jealous, untrusting self while Jace was giving snarky remarks.
"Your thing?" Simon asked, totally jealous. "You guys have a thing?"
"He means a Shadowhunter thing," I said walking up to them.
"Kat, what are you doing here?!" Simon opened his arms and walked towards me and gave me a hug.
"This is boarding school," I said, releasing him from the hug. "This is what I do now. Protect mundanes from Demons."
"And avoid those who treated you like family," Clary said clearly pissed with how I left.
"It's what your mother wanted," I said, doing my best not to let my emotions get the better of me.
"And what about what I wanted? I wanted a sister, not someone who left without so much as a goodbye."
"Jocelyn told me to pack my things before she drove me here. I had no idea I was even leaving."
                              "Still, you should've called."
"We need to focus," Jace said standing in between the two of us. Jace touched the screen and it showed us the perimeter cameras. Two cops were knocking on the front door. Clary asked if we could be discovered but Jace told her that the wards would deter them.
"What is going on?" Alec asked. "Why is there a mundane in the Institute?"
"A Circle member followed him to get to Clary," Jace explained.
"A Circle, rune just like the guys that took my mother," Clary said.
"What exactly is a Circle member?" Simon asked.
"All we know is... a long time ago the Circle led a revolt," Jace said, going into story mode. "A lot of Shadowhunters got killed...including my father."
"And since the revolt we've been forbidden to even hear about the Circle," Alec continued.
"Not exactly," I said, butting into storytime. "Magnus told me a few things about the Uprising from a Downworlders perspective. But it doesn't paint Shadowhunters in the best light, or the Clave for that matter."
"There must be someone out there who can tell us why they've taken my mother," Clary said, bringing all the attention back to her.
Jace walked over to a different set of monitors next to Izzy and said, "there is." He walked away and headed towards the training arena. Clary and Simon followed but Jace stopped them and told Simon to stay back. Clary protested and Izzy volunteered herself and me to watch Simon. "In fact, I was about to make breakfast," Izzy said, moving closer to Simon.
Jace took a sharp inhale before muttering, "on second thought, the runes might be less lethal."
Izzy scoffed. "I'll pretend I didn't hear that. Please excuse my brother's lack of manners. This is Alec..." Izzy said, pointing behind her to Alec, "and I'm Isabelle."
Simon stuttered through his name and Izzy giggled. I just grabbed onto Simon's arm and led him to the kitchen so Izzy could get started on 'breakfast'. I have no idea what she made. It looked like lumpy applesauce and burnt crackers. I just grabbed a protein bar and a Gatorade and went into Izzy's room. Simon was sitting on the edge of Izzy's bed looking extremely nervous. Izzy set the tray down on her bed and sat on the edge across from Simon. I just laid across her bed up by the pillows.
Simon asked some questions about the Forsaken and Valentine before he got all huffy about Jace. "What makes Jace so special?" Simon asked.
"Fastest, strongest, fiercest," Izzy answered. "And hello, have you seen the guy?"
