Charlotte West

“Where is the veil?” Jess cried out.

“Here it is” I handed it to her. Ever since she woke up, she has been a frenzy. Pre-wedding jitters I presume. I helped her put it on. Finally, the bride was done. She looked exquisite in her ball gown.

“Ladies, can I come in.” Joel knocked at the door.

“Sure.” Bella called out, he poked his head in

“Looking god sis. Chloe, you look divine.” He smiled, “hurry up though, we need to leave in the next 5 minutes or you will be late to your own wedding.”

Three minutes later, we were on the road to the chapel. I rode with Joel because, as he puts it, the other cars had other things to carry. We got to the chapel and got in line. Joel kissed my forehead,

“See you inside Cara. And I can’t wait to take you out of that dress” he winked at me and went to his sister, talked to her for seconds and headed inside. He wasn’t part of the bridal team. The doors opened and all of us headed inside and took our places as we awaited the bride. We stood up as soon as the traditional bridal song played and the doors opened. My best friend, the woman of this hour walked down the aisle, escorted by her father. He placed her hand in Remy’s hand and said some words to them. The pair nodded and turned to the priest.

“We are here to bear witness to the wedding of Remy McLaren and Jessica Williams. The institution of marriage is a sacred covenant designed and blessed by God. The two shall agree to enter into this sacred covenant through their vows. The rings they will give to one another will be the symbol of their love.” The pastor said. Zach, the best boy handed over the rings. The pastor blessed them and gave them to the pair.

“With this ring, I take you Jessica Williams, to be my lawfully wedded wife, I vow to be with you alone to the end of times, and I vow to be with you in good and in bad, in riches and in poverty, in sickness and in health. I vow to love and hold you till death separates us. As God has commanded, so I vow my eternal love to you.” Remy held Jess’ hand and slipped the ring on her finger.

“With this ring, I take you Remy McLaren to be my lawfully wedded husband. I vow to stand by you to the end of times. I vow to be your greatest support in good and bad times. I vow to always be in your corner. I vow to be your best friend, pillar, lover and wife. I vow not to be a source of unhappiness for you. As God has commanded, so I vow my eternal love to you.” She slipped a ring onto his finger; I turned only to find Joel looking at me.

“I love you” he mouthed

“I love you too.” I mouthed back, and turned to the altar.

“With the power vested in me, I now pronounce you, husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.” We stood up and clapped our hands as they kissed. Jess and Remy grinned at each other. She whispered something to him, and he nodded. She turned to the audience and nodded. What was that about?
I saw Joel walk to the altar.

“Can I have everyone’s attention please?” he smiled at me, “congratulations you two. Marriage is a full time job. I’m talking long hours. Overtime, no summers off. It requires you to give out everything that you have. It is a risky choice to make, because you don’t know what to find. But I am ready to take that risk, only if you choose to take that risk with me Chloe. I promise to give everything that I have. I will never stop proving myself. And I will never ever stop loving you. I promise to always be there for you. I know you won’t say no” he chuckled and got on one knee in front of me, “Charlotte West, would you please marry me?” he asked and present the  black box with the diamond ring

“Yes, I will marry you” he slipped the ring on my finger, wiped my tears and we shared a kiss to seal the deal

                                             *************************
“Congratulations sweetheart.” I hugged Jess

“I can’t believe am now married. And congratulations to you too” She smiled at me

“Cara” Joel breathed against my neck. When did he get here?
“Hey babe, what’s up?”

“I need a kiss” he whined

“Okay am gonna go and find my husband. Feel free to find a room around here somewhere where you can carry on.” Jess left and Joel laughed. I gave him a short kiss and went to find Bella. The reception was over and the newlyweds headed straight to the airport to catch their flight to Paris.
