sirius

as i place my hands on my remus' shoulders, he rests his delicately on my waist with such tender loving i can't help but feel fuzzy. i notice over his shoulder, lucius scowling in our direction. clearly, him being outshone by none other than remus lupin is a big no no in his books. he moves his date away from us, distinctly worried she'd find remus more attractive than him.

with the strum of a harp, the music jumps into life and everyone begins to weave their way around the floor. remus guides me through the waltz like it's what he was born to do. i'm an awful dancer. and by the slight, subtle turn up of his lips, almost forming a smirk, he can tell.
he doesn't even flinch when i repeatedly step on his big toe.
"you said you could dance" he whispers in my ear as the song comes to an end, chuckling slightly
"i lied" i whisper back, a smile tiptoeing on my lips "you said you couldn't dance"
"i also lied" he laughs warmly. it's so lovely hearing him laugh, when so often he's so sad.

as soon as the party music kicks in, remus' face lights up like a summers day. a grin fills my face as he pulls me into a dance.
"i love this song!" he grins. i've never seen him like this. completely wild, head banging, making his curls fly everywhere. it's been forever since i've seen him truly let loose. and i don't need to be asked twice to join in.

after hours of dancing and singing at the top of my lungs, not knowing or caring if my cologne can withstand the task of making me smell good, my mouth is as dry as sand and i offer to get drinks for us both.
"two butterbeers please" i smile to the bar tender.

tonight can't get better.

remus

with sirius gone for drinks, i decide to join lily, james, peter sat in a gaggle at a table.
"hey rem!" james exclaims "man you look amazing!"
"thanks!" i blush "not to bad yourself potter"
"where's sirius?" peter looks curiously over my shoulder
"oh he's just getting drinks, may i sit with you?"
"of course!" lily beams, patting a plush velvet chair next to her.
"you do look amazing moons" lily smiles warmly
"thank you lils, i love your dress" and it's true. it's a gorgeous blue, that contrasts perfectly with her firey red hair. little sequins of sapphire catch the light and reflect from her ambiently. james is totally, head over heels in awe.
"so you didn't ditch black after all" lucius says shrewdly as he saunters over. he straightens an emerald bow tie that matches his dates beautiful flowing gown. she is truly very pretty with her short curly brown hair that bounces in ringlets on her shoulders and her stunning green eyes. but she seems to have a sinister look to her, something not quite right. perfect for malfoy i think to myself.
"nope. i did not lucius"
"i would of if i were you. he's a disgrace. oh wait," he smirks wickedly "so are you. maybe it is a match made in heaven after all"
his date laughs at his joke, a glint of malice lies in her bewitching eyes, but compared to lucius she looks positively sweet.
"if sirius is a disgraceful date, i don't know what yours is malfoy" james chuckles.
"how dare you say that about her" he hisses defensively taking her hand in his "you're all blood traitors and mudbloods anyway. we're leaving daisie"
"don't you ever call my girlfriend a mudblood" james gets to his feet, his mouth twitching in anger
"or what?" malfoy spits
"or nothing" lily holds james back "he's not worth it sweetheart"

sirius bounds back like an excited puppy with two glasses of butterbeer, his face instantly falling when he locks eyes on lucius.
"great" he sighs sarcastically "the dementor has arrived. sucking the happiness out of every situation"
lucius takes a menacing step towards sirius, his eyes glistening devilishly.
"oh go cry to mummy"

                                  sirius

"fuck you" i spit, slamming the drinks on the table and storming out the hall. he really knows where to rub the salt in. remus quickly catches up with me thanks to his long legs.
"sirius! sirius wait!" he grabs my hand.
"he's a prat sirius, don't let him get to you" he strokes my arm reassuringly.
"i try not to, but he's such a prick!" i flail my arms, nearly knocking professor mcgonagall out.
"i know, i know siri."
"he had to fucking mention my mother didn't he"
"yes he did. because he's got no morals. but out there, right now he thinks he's won. he thinks you're upset. so you know what we're gonna do?"
i shake my head in confusion
"we're gonna go out there and have the most romantic, heart warming final dance and truly rub it in his face that you are bloody happy right now"
"are we?"
"yes now come here" he opens his arms, letting me nuzzle my head into him, just listening to his heart beat steadily. we stay like this, interlocked in eachothers arms, for 5 minutes when finally my ears prick up at the change of music.

a slow song.

"may i have this dance?" remus extends his arm, just as he did earlier.
"you may mr lupin"
"just remember, i love you" he whispers so only i can hear "and that lucius malfoy is a condescending, childish, creepy, diabolical, imp"
"i only know what half of those adjectives mean, but yes, i agree" i laugh as we head back into the hall.

i can't help but grin as lucius' face drops when he sees me walk back in, care free.
"kiss me" i whisper "whilst he's looking, kiss me"
remus leans in and kisses me gently, ever so gently, like a little butterfly tiptoeing across my lips.
"that okay?" he raises an eyebrow
"hm i was more thinking-" i grab his collar and pull his body closer to mine. he lets out a small gasp of surprise before melting into it. he wraps his arms around my waist with one hand, the other digging into my hair, tugging at it slightly.
"that good enough for you?" he smirks
"yes that was very, very good" i smile back
"was mr malfoy watching?"
"i don't know and i don't care" i laugh "i just wanted an excuse to kiss you"

he places his hands on my waist as we get ready to dance our final dance. i was absolutely spot on correct. tonight has been perfect.
