Draco Malfoy and Y/N Y/L/N have undoubtedly always been in love with each other. The pair met on the train to Hogwarts at the very beginning of their first year. After a while of conversing on the train, they realized how similar they were and quickly bonded. At the sorting ceremony, they were ecstatic when they were both sorted into Slytherin and have been inseparable since.

As time passed, feelings grew. Those feelings eventually morphed into love. Both thinking their love was one-sided, neither of them ever dared to confess to the other. That is, until seventh year when Draco promised himself that he would finally confess to Y/N after the war. He thought that if she ended up rejecting him, at least they would never have to see each other at school again.

Y/N and Draco, both unwillingly being death eaters, were on the same side of the war. This only made their bond even stronger, if at all possible.

The formidable battle was now in action, the atmosphere at Hogwarts as gloomy as ever.

You and Draco, along with many other Slytherin students, were currently holed up in the Slytherin common room. You all knew it was merely a temporary hideout, seeing as the school was crumbling around you by the minute.

Explosions and fearful screams could be heard on the other side of the common room door as a few of the hiding students tried to revise an escape plan.

"I have to go out there." Draco eyed the door with an unreadable look. With wide eyes, you looked at Draco as if he had just killed your cat.

"Are you mental? We were told by Professor Snape to stay here. Not to mention, I'd rather you not get killed!"

"Y/N, I just need to walk around and see what's going on. I might even find a safe way out of here. I won't be gone long."

"But Professor Snape-"

"If he even comes back before I do, I doubt that he'll notice my absence," Draco tried to reason with you as he prepared himself for the commotion that was happening just outside the door.

"Draco, please don't go. You know how dangerous it is out there," you begged desperately with a pleading look on your face. Draco went up to you and softly grabbed your small biceps, reassuringly looking into your eyes.

"I'll be fine. I need you to stay here for me, okay? I promise, I'll be back soon." Draco kissed your forehead and let go of your arms before finally leaving the common room, not giving you a chance to at least tell him to be careful.

You didn't think much of the forehead kiss, as it was something that happened quite often throughout the years. Your friendship was very affectionate, having very few boundaries. You weren't complaining, though. You'd always thought of him as more than a best friend, but never said anything. You felt there was no need, since you were sure he didn't reciprocate your feelings.

Oh, how you were so, so wrong.

Unbeknownst to Draco, you wandered around the now destroyed school in search of him. You had waited quite a while in the common room for him to return before your worries got the best of you.
