Two weeks.

That's how long it's been since your death. Draco kept telling himself that he was doing okay, even though he knew that it was a lie. He knew that your death broke him. He knew that it would take a while to put himself back together. He wouldn't admit it, though.

The Yule Ball was starting in about thirty minutes. Everyone was surprised to find out that Draco had asked Pansy to be his date. No one had expected him to move on that quickly. What they didn't know was that Draco hadn't moved on. He wasn't better. He thought bringing Pansy to the ball would help him get over your death. At least, that's what he kept telling himself.

Of course, he was planning to bring you. It was just three days before your death when he had asked you to be his date.

~Flashback~

Draco wandered into the Great Hall, scanning the room for your face. He was currently hiding a rose beneath his robes, and he was doing his best to not crush it. He knew how much you loved roses, so he didn't care that his plan was cliche.

He smiled as he spotted you seated at the Slytherin table, talking to your best friend, Daphne. He walked up to you and tapped your shoulder. You turned around and your face lit up as you saw him.

"Hello, darling," he greeted you, leaning down to kiss your cheek.

"Hi, Dray," you replied, smiling.

"Mind if I borrow her for a bit?" He rhetorically asked Daphne. She smirked.

"Not at all." At that, Draco grabbed your hand and led you out of the Great Hall. You found a spot away from people before Draco pulled out the rose and you gasped. A smile came upon your face as he handed it to you.

"Oh, thank you, Draco. I love it." You pecked his lips before admiring the rose. He took your hand in his, making you look back up at him. You stared into his mesmerizing gray eyes as you waited for him to speak.

"Y/N, would you do me the honor of being my date to the Yule Ball?"

You smiled widely. "I would love to go to the ball with you, Draco."

He flashed his charming smile, and you took notice of how his nose always slightly scrunches whenever he genuinely smiles. You thought it was absolutely adorable.

You wrapped your arms around his neck and your foreheads rested against each other before you finally placed your lips on his.

~End of Flashback~

Draco stared blankly at his reflection in his dorm mirror. He was dressed in formal dress robes, and his blond hair was perfectly styled with the help of hair gel. Despite his eye bags and solemn facial expression, he looked quite put together.

In the mirror's reflection, he saw you behind him, sitting on his bed. He knew it wasn't really you, and he didn't dare turn around. He knew that if he turned around, you wouldn't be there anymore, and he didn't want to let you go.

There was a reason it didn't come as a shock to Draco when he saw you in the reflection. He's been... seeing you, lately. Or rather, hallucinating you. He didn't want to admit that this was a stage of grief for him, because he's convinced himself that he's better, now. He's convinced himself that he's done grieving.

"You look handsome," you said, still sat on his bed. He looked at you in the reflection and smiled, not feeling the need for a verbal response.

"I miss you," he said quietly after a moment. You smiled.

"I'm right here, love."

He hesitated before turning around. As he expected, but much to his disappointment, you weren't there anymore.

He sighed, leaving his dorm and making his way to the Great Hall.

With an emotionless expression on his face, Draco participated in the first dance, only because it was mandatory and he didn't really have a choice. As he lethargically lifted Pansy in the air, he couldn't help but feel empty as he wished it was you.

Draco was now sat at one of the tables with his head rested in one of his hands as he stared blankly at nothing. He was getting annoyed at the volume of the music and decided to drag himself out of the Great Hall. His feet carried him outside of the building, and before he knew it, he was at the top of the astronomy tower.

He darted his eyes to the right, and there you were. His lips parted. You were dressed in a gorgeous long-sleeved, dark green dress that flowed a little past your feet. You had a little bit of makeup on, and your y/h/c hair was styled beautifully.

"I wanted you to see me in my dress." You slowly walked up to him, smiling. "Do you like it?"

"Darling, you look like a princess." Your smile grew wider before you reached a hand up to softly cup his face. His eyes fluttered close at the contact. He could feel your hand, it felt so real.

"I can feel you," he whispered, his eyes still closed. "I can feel your touch... that's- that's not possible."

"Of course, it's possible, Draco." He opened his eyes again. "I'm here for you. I love you."

"I love you, too," he replied after a moment.

"Now, I believe you owe me a dance?" You stepped back slightly, moving your hand away from his cheek and offering it to him. He took your hand in his and moved closer to you. You placed your free hand on his shoulder as he placed his on your waist and the two of you began slowly swaying back and forth. In this moment, there was no need for music.

Draco nuzzled his head in your neck. Tears finally started escaping his eyes as he smiled sadly into your neck.

If anyone were to witness this, they'd think Draco was insane, but he didn't care. This was real for him, and that's all that mattered.

And so, the cold winter night continued on as Draco danced with your ghost to nothing but the sound of the wind.
