I was walking aimless around the streets as my stomach churned in hunger. I stared at the cloudy skies as I heaved out a sigh.
Life is already hard since I was born in this world. I was born in the streets where my mother cannot feed me with her own breast for her body couldn't do so. She died saving me from gangsters who tried to harm us from the streets.
I was still a young boy who's lost, who still didn't find his meaning in this cruel world.
I arrived at the park where families are always smiling and together. I sat on the bench as I looked at their bright smiles, the gleam in their eyes as children where tossed in the air then caught afterwards.
I want to be like them yet I kept on falling with no one to catch me.
Rain started to pour as I sat still on the bench and everyone dispersed looking for shelter. I was once again alone with no one. It's just me and the rain.
I hugged my knees as I silently pray, "Please save me..", hoping that my guardian angel would save me.
Tears fell from from my face as my body shivered from the cold, the rain blending with my salty tears as if feeling the intense emotion with in.
I was born with nothing, without a home and without a purpose. I never knew what it feels like to be loved after my mother died, I never knew the feeling of being full, I never knew the feeling of having a family.
I would like to believe that all hope is lost, this world is just cruel for a little boy my age, who knew nothing about anything.
I felt that rain stopped pouring and looked up to see an umbrella, I saw a little boy who's a little taller than me, smiling with a toothy grin. His left front tooth was missing but I've felt different eversince he arrived.
"You looked cold, mommy always told me to help anyone in need. Here, have my jacket and follow me.", he helped me wore his jacket and held my hand as we both crossed the street to seek shelter.
We stood under the bus stop and sat on the bench. I was unable to say anything since I never knew kindness was still here in this world.
"I hope you're not feeling cold anymore. Don't you know that you should seek shelter whenever it rains.", he tilted his head as he looked at me. I avoided his gaze and shook my head.
"You should drink medicines too!", I saw an orange gummy bear placed infront of me, I raised my head as I saw the smiling boy.
"It's an orange gummy vitamin that mommy always give me. She says it will help me be strong and I wanted you to be strong too.",
After how many years of being abandoned, not knowing why this boy is even helping someone like me. I was born on the streets while he was probably born on the hospital, I never understand.
"Why are you helping me?", I asked as I looked directly at his eyes.
"Because mommy said that kindness is the best medicine you could offer, whenever you see someone sad, always show them kindness and it will always make a different no matter how small or big it is.", he smiled which somehow resembles a box.
I smiled at him and raised my hand, "I'm Kim Lee Hin."
He raised his own and shook mine, "Kim Heebin, at your service Mr. Kim.", he joked and we both laughed.
His small of act of kindness gave a sudden spark inside my heart. I used to hate the world for putting me in this situation where I thought I was alone but I never was, I was able to meet him who gave me hope in my life.
I would never forget someone who helped me change my thoughts about the world, he gave me hope. I will forever remember you Kim Heebin.
Heebin shot up from his seat as a woman approached him, "Heebin, where had you been? I've been looking for you everywhere..", she picked Heebin up and hugged him tightly.
She caught my eyes and looked at Heebin, "Eomma, I found him alone at the park. He was shivering cold that's why I gave him my jacket and gave him an orange gummy too.", she smiled and kissed his forehead.
"I'm proud of you Heebin.", I smiled at the scene before me and was about to remove the jacket so I could return it.
"You can keep it, I insist.", she smiled as she crouched down and patted my hair gently.
A mother's touch is soft and delicate. I used to yearn for my mother to be alive again so I could stare at her hopeful eyes.
"We'll help you little one, take my hand. You will be alright.", I was hesitant to accept their offer since I had trouble trusting strangers that I barely knew.
Living in the streets taught me that survival is top priority and others are useless. You need to be strategic and fast in order to survive, emotions are useless in this kind of world but..
I couldn't control myself, they helped me even if I look horrible and have a bad smell. I slowly held to her hand and she smiled. She turned the umbrella up and covered both of us from the rain.
They put me in a adoption center and Heebin visited me everyday so we could play together and at the point of my life, my view about the world changed.
I guess history repeats itself.
