Chapter 29

Just a short chapter of the last edits I had to do. Will have another update soon.

Ethan wakes up to someone sitting in a chair in the corner, he's confused as to who she is.

"Excuse me, who are you and why are you in my room?"

She was looking out the window and was startled to hear him speak.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I'm Carrie, I heard you singing last night and wanted to tell you that you have an amazing voice."

"Oh, well thank you. I'm Ethan. It's nice to meet you. What are you in here for?" He asked, looking at her wrist seeing the bracelet.

"I had surgery, I had to get a kidney transplant."

"Is it holding so far?"

"Yup, thank goodness. What are you here for?"

"That is personal."

"I could have said the same thing to you when you asked."

"I know but really, it is. If it was something like what you had, I would tell you but, it's not. I'm sorry I don't mean to be rude; I just don't feel like telling my story right now."

"No problem. Wanna go for a walk?"

"I can't, I am not allowed to leave the bed, had back to back surgeries so doc's orders. We could play a game of cards if you'd like. I have a couple decks and a crossword puzzle and well TV."

"Cards sound good."

"Well come on, sit up here. The beds big enough for the both of us."

She sits on the bed in front of him and he puts the roll table over the bed and shuffles the deck of cards.

"Blackjack?" He asked.

"Sure. Show me what you got." She smiled.

"You're on." He dealt the cards and a few rounds later; she hung her head.

"Ok ok you suck you know that?" She pouted and he chuckled.

"I know." She smiled.

Brian walked into the room and smiled at them.

"Good almost afternoon. Ethan, I have some news about something I mentioned a while back if you have some time to talk?"

"Oh, I will be in my room, it's next door so when I see doc hotness leave, I'll come back if you want?"

"Yea that's fine, I'll see if you can kick my ass in poker next." He grinned.

"We'll see." She got off the bed and walked out.

"So, first, how are you today?"

"Honestly, I'm not sure. Still fresh you know."

"I know, do you remember me saying something about contacting a plastic surgeon a while back? Well he finally has time to take to come out and meet you and see what he can do."

"Really?"

"Yes, he will be here at the end of the week. I faxed him your records, so he knows everything and told me he will come up with something before he gets here."

"Oh wow, so you mean I could work again, maybe?"

"Maybe, it's not set in stone, but this is promising Ethan. He is like the best in the country and if he tells you he can help, trust he will."

"I trust you and if you trust him, ok. That is awesome Brian. Thank you so much."

"No problem. You are my favorite patient, remember?" He winks.

"Yes, I remember. Man, that is the best news I have heard in a long time."

"Ah well maybe I can make you even happier?"

"How?" Brian opens his phone and opens his email and shows Ethan. Ethan looked at it and his eyes went wide.

"Oh my god that's my hospital!"

"Yup. It's up and running, Ryan told me, and I asked him to send it to me, so I could show you. It is impressive. You came up with it?"

"Yes, Ryan helped with some but most of it was me. Did he happen to send pix of the OR?"

"Yup, just hit the back button and the photos are all in the email." Ethan scrolled through the photos and he was smiling like a mad man.

"Oh, it's so beautiful Brian! So clean and shiny!"
"It really is. It's hands down one of the best hospitals I have ever seen."

"Thank you, thank you for showing me. I just wish I was there to see it in person though. One day I will go back and see it. This is just the start Brian."

"How so?"

"I plan on going to all the military bases all over the world and upgrading or building from the ground up, this hospital."

"Wow! Well we need to get you better, so you can do that."

"From your lips to God's ears." He hands Brian back his phone.

"Exactly, well I am going to go check on other patients and I will see you later. Are you in any pain before I go?"

"No, the meds are working well."

"Good, I will see you later." He winks, smiles and walks out. Ethan sighs and lays his hand on his pillow smiling.
