"Colby!"

The sound of her scream and the urgency in her voice made his heart race as he sprinted as fast as he could to where the ear-piercing sound came from. He threw on his shirt and quickly ran down his stairs, skipping the last five steps, almost face planting. He anxiously looked through every room on the floor, only to find Rebecca standing peacefully in front of his fridge.

"What's wrong?!" He managed to breathe out while heavily trying to catch his breath and regain his composure.

Rebecca looked over at him with a confused face, not understanding why he was so concerned. "Nothing?" She said in a questioning tone while laughing and shaking her head.

"So why on earth did you scream for me like someone died or you just won the toast lottery?!"

"Oh, that." She looked at him with a face of realization once she finally understood what he was freaking out about. "You have no more mint chocolate chip ice cream!"

"Rebecca. Really? That's what this is all about?"

"Yes! This is a serious and extremely catastrophic emergency! You don't even have any other type of ice cream either!" Rebecca began to whine.

Colby shook his head in disbelief and couldn't help but start laughing. "Becks, you already had a tub of mint ice cream yesterday."

"Yes, Lopez. Yesterday. Not today. Yesterday. See the difference? That was yesterday, and this is today. Two very different things."

Colby couldn't contain himself as he began laughing and clutching his chest as he tried to recapture his breath. It had been a while since Rebecca heard him laugh so hard ever since his heart was broken.

"Colby! It's not funny!" Rebecca tried to prevent herself from giving in to his infectious laugh and hide the smile that was creeping onto her face, happy to finally see Colby begin to go back to his normal self.

Once his laughing subsided, Colby was finally able to regain some composure and respond to Rebecca. "Quin, you are something. We can go buy some more tomorrow, for now just make some popcorn."

"But I don't want popcorn, I want ice cream!"

"Well last time I checked, in the movies, the person that gets broken up with gets the ice cream. In this situation that's me not you, and since you're helping take care of me I think it's only fair that you go buy me some. But, under no circumstances whatsoever, will you bring me mint chocolate chip ice cream! That stuff is disgusting!"

"No. The rule is the girl always gets the ice cream, even if she broke up with the guy. That's just how it works." Rebecca crossed her arms and gave him a slight smirk.

Colby gave her as much of a serious look as he possibly could. "Popcorn today, ice cream tomorrow."

Rebecca pouted and looked at him through her eyelashes. "But Colby-"

Before Rebecca could finish complaining, Colby began to tickle her and picked her up, throwing her over his shoulder while walking over to the couch. Seeing Rebecca laugh and squirm around trying to get out of his grip made him smile and laugh too.

"Colby!" Rebecca managed to scream through her laughing fit while flailing frantically and breathing rapidly. Colby continued to carry her and attack her with tickles, once he reached the couch he gently threw her down and heard Rebecca desperately trying to catch her breath. A large smile was plastered on both of their faces, while they composed themselves.

"If you won't make the popcorn, I will. It's your turn to choose the movie anyways." Colby began walking back to the kitchen and proceeded to make them both popcorn while Rebecca readjusted her charcoal tank top and shorts that were dishevelled due to Colby's attack.

After Colby grabbed the popcorn and Rebecca finally decided on a movie, Colby set the popcorn bowl on the glass table in front of them while Rebecca stood up and set the remote down after pressing play. Colby took it as an opportunity to lay himself across the entire length of the couch making himself comfortable. When Rebecca looked over she noticed there was no room on the couch, Colby quickly motioned to her with his arm and patted the open area in front of him for her to lie down too. Cuddling between the two was a regular occurrence and they always found comfort in one another's company. As Rebecca finally got settled in front of Colby, he rested his head on hers while he wrapped his arm around her with the other beneath her head.

During the middle of the movie, Colby was about to fall asleep until he felt coolness in the air hit him, instead of the warmth Rebecca was providing him. At the same time, he heard the sound of a phone ring and some shuffling. He cracked open his eyes to see Rebecca checking her cell phone.

"Did I wake you? I'm so sorry." Rebecca looked at him apologetically and opened her mouth to say something else until it was interrupted by her phone ringing again.

"No don't worry, I was close to falling asleep, but I never actually did. Do you need to take that?" Colby responded while pausing their movie and eating a few of the popcorn pieces that were now cold.

Rebecca watched the screen of her phone as she let it ring for a while, the bright screen of the phone lit up her face and the mostly dim room. Colby noticed her hesitating and debating on whether she should let it go to voicemail or not. "Yeah I probably should, it's Jeff."

Just the sound of his name made Colby's face want to wrinkle up in disgust. Colby quietly nodded his head to Rebecca in response.

"I'll be quick, I promise." She said with a smile while she quickly walked out of the living room and into the guest room.

After a few minutes of scrolling through his phone, Colby heard Rebecca finally come back into the living room. When they made eye contact, she gave him a weak smile. She placed her phone down on the table after they broke eye contact, and her eyes began to dart around the room anxiously. She began to rub her thumb on the index finger of her opposite hand repeatedly, as the other fingers wrapped over the rest of her hand. Colby noticed her unusual behaviour and immediately knew something was wrong.

"Are you okay?" Colby sat up quickly, genuinely concerned while he was staring Rebecca down. She seemed to be in deep thought as she stared at the fireplace, even though it wasn't on. "Becks?"

Rebecca's head quickly shot up and over towards Colby when she was finally brought out of her thoughts. "Yeah, I'm good."

Colby nodded his head as a response, not certain on whether she was actually telling the truth or not. Colby let the movie resume and laid down in his original position, while he once again patted the open area next to him so that Rebecca would come over and lay with him.

When she made her way over to Colby, her movements seemed more stiff and hesitant than before. When she laid down with her head on Colby's arm, he threw his other one over her and began aimlessly drawing shapes on the bare skin of her arm with his fingers. Colby felt her muscles relax and the tension leave her shoulders as her breathing began to slow down and her eyes fluttered shut.

Rebecca was thankful that Colby was nuzzled behind her and that the light was dim because her face couldn't be seen. When her eyes did flutter shut, a single tear escaped, going unnoticed by Colby. She left her eyes closed to prevent any other tears from slipping out after that.

As Rebecca felt Colby's breathing slow and felt his hand stop moving, she assumed he was asleep. She quietly slipped out from under his grasp and replaced her warmth with a blanket, laying it over him. She grabbed her phone, looked through it, and walked out of the living room to the front door.

Colby was secretly awake when he noticed her leave from his embrace and he heard her head out of the house, even though she was extremely quiet. Rebecca was never one to leave unannounced, especially when it came to their movie nights. On any other day, she would have spent the night. Knowing something couldn't be right, Colby got up from the couch and walked to her guest room and then the front of the house. He noticed that other than what she was wearing, her phone, and her shoes, the rest of her belongings were still there. He peered through the front door's window and saw her get picked up by a car, without hesitating he threw on some running shoes, grabbed his car keys, and went after her.
