------Jason's POV------
"Belgium, 1831," Mr. Matthews said, for what must be the hundredth time.
To be honest, I wasn't really paying attention at this point. For the past two and a quarter years, I hadn't spoken a word or paid any close attention in this class. It's not like he really cared anyways.
"Dad, what does it mean to be in love?"
And there we go, I thought. On cue, Riley shows us nepotism at it's finest.
History, English, and Science class typically goes like this.
Mr. Matthews introduces a historical topic.
Maya, Riley, Farkle, Zay, Smackle, and Lucas talk amongst themselves about their problems, and answer questions.
The rest of us stay quiet.
"What do you mean, Riley?" Mr. Matthews asked.
"You know, like what you and Mom feel?"
"Yeah, Matthews, that spill your guts feeling, wanna smooch feeling, wanna have your babies feeling."
Mr. Matthews stared at her for a moment, before shaking his head and sighing. He opened his mouth to answer.
"Love is so much more than that," I thought.
Everyone turned around to look at me.
I just stared back, not understanding.
"Did I say that out loud?"
"Uh, yeah," Zay said, turning around in his chair to get a better look at me.
"Mr. Anderson? Did you have something to add?" Mr. Matthews asked me.
"Well, uh, I've always thought of love as finding your other half, like someone who completes you. Someone you'd spend eternity with, someone you'd want to go beyond till death do you part."
The whole class was silent.
"Or something, I dunno, what do I know, I'll shut up now," I said, before slumping back in my seat.
"You mean, like reincarnation?" Lucas asked, not looking away.
I blushed a little bit, the attention starting to get to me.
"Reincarnation is scientifically impossible, " Smackle said, shaking her head. "The transference of energy would be noticed otherwise."
"Yeah, but that doesn't stop belief," Riley said. "I believe Pluto's a planet, even if no one else does. I believe people are inherently good, and that's not scientifically measurable."
"Different topics," Farkle said, shrugging his shoulders. "But I'm more interested in this other half concept."
"Mr. Anderson? Could you come up here please, and explain yourself? I'm very interested in what you have to say."
I gulped before nodding nervously. I stood up, before taking a step, towards the front of the room. I took a breath and walked the rest of the way there, before turning around to face the class, my legs and hands shaking.
"Uh, uh, yeah. So like, some marriages are super happy, and they all work out in the end, like yours, Mr. Matthews."
"I'm sensing a but here..." Lucas said.
"But.... some don't. Some people, they just can't make it work, for one reason or another. They end up apart, sometimes friends and sometimes not."
Maya looked away, causing Riley to look at her in concern, and me to gulp and look at my feet.
