Lola's awakening on Christmas morning was abrupt yet charged with excitement. It was Christmas and her birthday. It would be fabulous. When she turned twelve last year there was a huge celebration just for her so her thirteenth party should be epic.
She had allowed herself to go Christmas Eve shopping with the grandparents and Mom hadn't wanted her to come in through the front door. In fact, she'd been sent to get some rest - an obvious diversion. She brushed her teeth, put on light makeup and made sure her pajamas were still Instagram-worthy.
Lola headed downstairs with the right amount of calculated noise, but no one greeted her. The family room was noisy. She realised that they must be waiting for the birthday girl in front of the tree. She smiled as she walked quickly over to greet everyone, but she and her smile froze at the doorway.
Her parents and grandparents were already there. Parang music was blaring and the table was set with ham and hops with pineapple sauce along with black cake and fruits. With all the eating and chatting everyone's focus was on the new centre of attention. They were celebrating the bundle in her mother's arms. The sign above the tree read 'Baby's First Christmas'. Lola spun away.In her room she bawled into her pillow. They forgot her birthday. Her friends had warned her about being replaced, but she refused to believe that it was true. Would she now only get one gift since the bundle was here? She screamed and continued crying even when someone pounded on her locked door.
When she woke up it was after noon. She sniffled and reached for her phone. There were lots of birthday wishes from her friends especially. She kept scrolling until she saw one from her mom. There was a super long message and a picture. It was baby Lilly next to pink stuffed dragon with a card saying "Let's Party Teen Sis!" There was a video too. Her parents sharing that Lilly wanted to give Lola her first present since she was still too small to attend Lola's teenage birthday party.
Lola listened a few times until she felt like a fool. She had a surprise party? She rushed downstairs and was smothered in hugs, kisses and "picong" for falling for their prank. Her own grown up party was tomorrow and her cool friends were already invited. Her mom explained that they knew she wasn't a baby and wouldn't want baby stuff, but seven month Lilly seemed to pick the dragon for her. Lola picked up Lilly who was kept kicking her until she picked up the dragon. She decided to accept them both.

So do you have a sibling who took the attention away from you?😅😅😅.Did you feel like Lola? She was dramatic, right? I still understand her reaction. It must have been frustrating to be ignored on your own birthday?
Is your birthday on a holiday? Do you like that or not?
Lola receives a cute dragon, but did you realise she also acted like a dragon. European dragons are said to be greedy becaus they're horaders of treasure.
Do you think Lola is greedy?
