Wayne and John always wanted to drive fast cars. It was a normal desire for most teenage boys, but these two were completely obsessed with cars. They researched them online and spent their free time and class time, unfortunately, talking or thinking about fast cars. It came to a point when they wanted to stop talking about cars and start building them.

There wasn’t a class called “Auto Mechanics” in school so at thirteen they turned to the Bossman to get some advice. Bossman always drove some fancy cars and they were all well detailed from the rims to the wheel. He normally visited his garage on Saturday mornings so they both headed out early determined to meet him.

They showed up and actually got a chance to meet Bossman. He was a giant man who always dressed in black and thick, platinum jewelry. Despite his initially menacing air, he possessed a gentle and patient temperament. After the boys made their request, he asked them many questions about their lives, likes and knowledge about vehicles. He then gave them a tour of the facilities and introduced them to the workers there. They quickly realised that Bossman was more than the fancy cars and the eye-catching Instagram videos.  It wasn’t until adulthood  that they were able to identify his business acumen, charisma and analytical skills, but even then they sensed that meeting him was a life-changing experience.

Bossman advised them to work part time at the garage and increase their knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance. The boys hadn’t planned on manual labour, but Bossman convinced them and they secured their parents permission. It wasn’t an easy experience. They were expected to be punctual, do their work tidily and efficiently while offering excellent customer service. Bossman also stipulated that they had to ensure their grades were excellent to continue employment. Under Bossman’s influence they became determined students, excellent mechanics and possessed a focused direction for life.

John’s obsession for designing and  building cars deepened and he went on to secure a scholarship in Automotive Technology. He eventually became the first Caribbean- born Lead Car Designer at BMW Group and pioneered the development of some innovative designs. Wayne realised he didn’t enjoy design as much as maintenance and customisation of vehicles. That with an affinity for business gleaned from Bossman eventually founded a Caribbean-wide chain of garages.

They were each labelled a legend in their respective fields, but in every single interview or speech they ever made, they always mentioned Bossman as the origin of their unbelievable work ethic and work success. To both John and Wayne, Bossman was the true legend.
