When everyone got back to the house, I helped Candice with the left overs by carrying everything to the kitchen. David and Kenny was busy ignoring everyone when they left to go by the lake. He didnt even spare me glance when we climbed out and Kenny was so busy giving him all her attention, she didnt wonder about me at all.
The atmosphere in the house was very awkward, even though Candice was really trying her best to speak to everyone.
We didn't travel in some car together so Mom and Micheal left the picnic before we did. The more time, I got to speak with Candice, the more I realized why David or even Kenny would take a liking to her. She was actually positive and supporting especially when she started talking about Kenny taking dance classes. Even after the whole "I am not your mother" argument, she spoke to me as if it never happened.
I stood in kitchen and watched as Candice left to take a call outside. I sipped on some orange juice and soon Micheal walked into the kitchen. I didnt let my gaze stay on him long as I moved to sit around the small table in the corner.
My relationship was my step-dad was impacted by my relationship with my mother. He was her husband, he had to stick by her side. And I have no idea what he said to David regarding our situation.
David and Kenny were standing by the lake and skipping rocks. They actually looked so happy together. Kinda like the argument never happened to them. Maybe David was right, we just needed to let the situation go. She doesn't like the idea of me being with David and I am not going to let anyone stop me from being him.
But there was one...And she was making her way over to them. She got David's attention as they started talking and Kenny was busy trying to skip rocks but she wasn't getting it.
This made me laugh especially when she fold her arms and pouted at David. He didn't waste anytime, giving back his attention to her.
"She told me that you still love him" My body stiffened as I looked around at Micheal. He was now making his way to sit around the small table too. I looked back to David and Kenny but didn't respond to him. "And....I think...He still loves you" I glanced around at him but I hurried to myself from around the table and made my way to the sink.
"I dont want to talk about this anymore" I sighed as I placed the half full cup in the sink.
"I know everyone is completely over this arguement that happened five years ago. Well, trying to be over it" I was surprised that he laughed alittle about it and thats when I turned to look at him. "But hear me out, David and I cant help and fix the relationship between you and your mother but that little girl is my granddaughter regardless and I fell in love her too. I dont know what the future holds but dont keep her away from us....And when I say us, I am also talking about your mother" He stood up from the table and walked over to me.
"I don't really have a mother anymore but I don't have it in my heart to do that" he squeezed my forearm before pulling me into a hug. "I can't apologize for loving your son."
"I never told you to" we eased away from each other and that's when he gave me a smile.
The back door opened and Kenny was the first to make her way over to us. "Mommy, Uncle David was teaching me how to skip rocks but I cant get it" She was still pouting but her grandfather already stooped to her level.
"How about we try again tomorrow?" Kenny's eyes lit up and she nod at him.
"Okay Grandpa, is grandma okay?" Micheal looked up at me but I was not about to say anything. Kenny was still an innocent child to everything.
"Lets go check on her" He stood up and took her hand. They left the kitchen as Candice and David walked in. My gaze met those of David but his gaze didn't linger on me very long. He was probably still upset about the whole thing.
