Kids Just Want To Survive

Chapter One

It was a normal school day, frickin' boring as hell. The first period had just begun, and Mr. Newman had asked Mike to go to the staff room to get him a cup of coffee. Mike willingly got up from his chair and went to the staff room. He went to the cupboard got out a cup and started making the coffee when he heard a strange disturbing sound coming from one of the other teachers in the staff room. Curious he slowly approached the teacher and gave her a tap on the shoulder.

He asked hesitantly, "Ma'am are you alright?"

RAAAAUUUUGHHHH!!!!!!!

"What the hell?!"

Mike gets out of the room quickly recalling what he just saw. He had just seen something uglier than his friend Zig. He couldn't believe that he had witnessed the first real life zombie. After a second, he instantly realizes he must do something. He quickly gathers his friends Rachel, Zig, Kayla, Leon, and Miles.

Leon," Hey Mike what are you going on about?"

Rachel, "Yeah Mike we are gonna get into trouble and I'm not having the best day right now."

Mike completely ignores them and hurries them towards the horrific sight he had seen only a few seconds earlier. There it was, just wondering slowly towards them.

Miles, "What in the..."

Everyone was in absolute shock no one could believe what they were seeing. They were just staring in absolute shock until Mike shouted, "Hey snap out of it! We have to make a plan and secure the school!"

But slowly the thought of their families came into their minds.

"Mike your sister and my brother...they're at the primary school!" said Rachel.

Mike, "Does anyone know how to drive?!"

Leon answered and said yes and instantly Mike and Rachel demanded that they take them there to pick up their siblings. Luckily the school wasn't too far away from the high school, so they were able to get them in time. They also managed to get some other kids and someone who's arm had been bitten. They knew that later they would have to see to it but right now they had to get out of there alive.

They were all on their way to the high school but the saw Miles, Zig and Kayla running away from the high school and towards the bus. Miles was badly injured and Kayla and Zig told everyone the school had been completely overrun and everyone had turned. Zig and Rachel helped Miles into the bus, and everyone was in the bus, but they had no idea where they were going to go. It was chaotic. There was blood, screaming, and crying.

Rachel suggested that everyone should go to her house because there was enough room for everyone, and it could be easily secured. They arrived at the house when they see Rachels father, Eric, getting ready to leave.

After they arrived shortly Rachels father was running towards the bus. He was mad and screaming so loud every zombie in the neighborhood could hear him.

Eric exclaimed, "Before any of you say anything get your asses back in the bus, we're going to fetch your mom! She's at the hospital and she needs to get the heck out of there! You! The guy who's driving, drive like a man and stop driving like an old hag!! We are running out of time."

"Dad I got Will from the primary school and we got a few others who needed help, we done the best that we could."

"Good, right I see that we have a few who are injured."

Mike joins the conversation, "Yes sir, since we are going to the hospital, we have an excellent opportunity to get some medical supplies and Rachel is trained in first aid, so we should be able to look after Miles and Erin.

Leon asks, "Not all of us will be able to go in that hospital, it's far too risky.

Mike answers, "Well no, I think Rachel, Eric, Miguel, Zig and I should head into the hospital.

Rachel, "And while we are gathering supplies and getting my mom, Leon can drive the rest of you guys back and then we'll jack a car and see you guys there.

Leon, "Sounds like plan."

Eventually, after the car had stopped there was some sense of calmness since a plan had been developed for that day. Eric who was crazy enough to have prepared for any event like this handed out silent weapons which were mostly knifes or crossbows to the people who would gather supplies. He had made it very clear that this mission that they were about to attempt had to be as silent as possible and that there could be no screw-ups. Mike also added that if anything were to go wrong that they could not split up.

As they entered the hospital they killed as many zombies as the possibly could until the coast was clear. They rushed toward the ward which Rachels mom was in (her name is Joslyn). When the finally arrived, they found nothing but a not that had been written by Joslyn herself. The note had said that the group should head west, and they would find her.

It was a short drive and mickey almost instantly recognized the route. It was the route to his house. He thought that Joslyn could have just said go to Mikes house, but it was too late for that anyway. To Mike's great relief he found that his parents were alright. It turned out that Joslyn had met Mike's parents, Bob and Joelene when she had run away from the hospital when the virus had started spreading more rapidly.

They packed all the supplies they found from the hospital and all the food they could find at Mike's house and then they headed back towards the house where everyone else was. Rachel and Kayla had started using the medical supplies to look after the two people who were injured, Miles and Erin.

Rachel said, "Yikes. Miles how did you even get that cut."

Miles answered, "Well while we were escaping, everything was happening so fast, I was running, and my arm got caught in the barbed wire."

"Well it's a very big and deep wound and you'll need a vaccine to make sure you don't get a disease and your gonna need stitches, but you shouldn't feel anything...we got all the meds and equipment we could find at the hospital.

"Could be worse, right?

"Guess you're right, sorry about this, its gonna sting, but you'll be alright after this."

While Rachel was treating Miles' wound Kayla and some of the others had to deal with Erin whose arm had bitten. It was the worst thing that could possibly happen. His arm had to be cut of or else he would turn to. Hopefully, they weren't too late. The horrific sound of pure screaming and agony filled the entire house. After the procedure had been completed Erin had passed out because of the pain. They only thing they could do now was to wait and see if he would make it through.

It was around 5 in the evening and Joslyn and Joelene had started preparing meals for the night. Mike, Miles, Leon, Rachel, Kayla, Zig and the adults were in the general area and it was dead silent. Everyone was still recalling and trying to comprehend the events of the day. Everyone had eaten but there was almost certainly a feeling of emptiness and uncertainty in almost every single one of them.

There had been a very long discussion between those who were seated in that room. Kayla and Zig went to check in on the others who were in the different houses on the property. Meanwhile the rest of them were talking about what the hell they were going to do. It took a long time before they had a small sense of what they were going to do.

It was decided that the grownups were gonna keep watch that night. They couldn't afford any more casualties it was far too risky. Leon, Rachel and Miles were going to start looking for supplies, Joslyn and Joelene would be rationing the food and Eric, Bob and Mike would go catch a zombie or two to bring them back to base so that they could train themselves on how to eliminate the threat of a zombie.

After all of this was planned to happen for the next morning everyone went to sleep, and the grownups went on their night shift, but little did they know what was going to happen that night.
