(Peeta POV)
Today is the day. I will ask Katniss to go out to lunch with me .and I won't back out of it.
I walk to her house while my nerves grow and grow with each step towards her house. I'm asking her to go have lunch with me for two reasons. The first reason, I really really like Katniss. The second reason, I want to get to know her more.
I step up onto her porch, take a deep breath and ring the doorbell. Fortunately, she answers. When she sees me a smile appears on her face.
"Hi, Peeta." She greets.
"Hey." the air around us gets very awkward.
"What's up?" She leans on the door.
"I was wondering if you'd like to get some lunch with me?" Her eyes light up.
"Yes, I would love to. Just let me go get dressed. Come on in." I walk in and sit on her couch. A little girl comes up to me with a big smile on her face.
"Are you my sister's boyfriend?" I grin at the question. I wish I was.
"No, I'm just a friend." She nods her head.
"Does she know you're here?" She sits on the floor in front of me.
"Yeah." she nods.
"Okay, ready?" I look up at her and nod.
"Prim, go outside with dad okay?" She gets up and runs out the door.
We start toward the small Deli near our house. I look over at Katniss who seems happier than the first two times I've seen her.
"Why did you want me to go to lunch with you?"
"Well, you're new here and I want to get to know you." She bursts out laughing.
"What?"
"Why would you want to get to know me?"
"You seem like a very interesting girl with a big life story I think is worth my time." Her laughter dies down.
"It's not that great, Peeta." We get to the deli and I open the door for her.
"I'll be the judge of that." We order our food, then go and take a seat.
"Go on tell me your big adventurous life story." I lean back in my seat.
"Well, my parents are divorced and we have no idea where my mom went. She took my brother with him, so we haven't seen him at all." I stop her.
"Why'd they get a divorce?"
"Because of my dad's job."
"What's he do?"
"I don't know but it requires him moving all over the world and my mom didn't want to have to deal with that, so she left and so did we and we've been all over the world since."
"What places have you lived?"
"Uh Greece, China, Ireland, and London."
"Do you know any other languages?"
"Nope."
"Wait, so then how did you live in China?"
"Very carefully." I chuckle at her answer. The waitress brings us our food.
"So, this is your first time in America?"
"Yeah."
"How do you like it?" She cringes a little bit.
"The places I like, the people I don't like." I know she is referring to Delly and her little group of friends.
"Not everyone is like Delly."
"Your friend Johanna isn't the brightest flower." I chuckle.
"She doesn't like anyone really. Trust me she hates Delly so much more than she hates you."
"She hates me? I haven't even had a real conversation with her."
"No, she doesn't hate you, she just doesn't know you well." She nods her head.
"I'll take you to see some of my friends later if you'd like?" A smile grows on her face.
"I would love that." I nod my head.
The rest of lunch was fairly quiet with a little conversation that never seemed to die down. Soon I walk her back to her house, where we stand on her porch now.
"We should do this again." she proposes and I nod.
"Yeah, that sounds great."
"I'll see you later?" She nods. With that I walk off her porch and onto the sidewalk.
I think I'm in love.
