JOSEPHINE
I walk up to the professor and introduce myself.
"Ah, it's good to have you in class, Ms Quinn. I will look forward to you contributing to the environment in the best way possible."
"I look forward to proving you right, Mr Sanderson." I smile.
"Now, you wouldn't happen to know about the summer project, obviously, but do you happen to know something about Pride and Prejudice?"
"It's one of my favourite novels, sir."
"That's wonderful. Then I believe you won't have trouble participating in today's discussion. And just a little heads up because you are new, it more often than not turns into a full-fledged debate."
"Don't worry, Sir, I believe I can hold my own very well." He smiles at my statement and gestures his hand to an empty seat in the third row and I take my place there. As the bell rings, the class settles down and Mr Sanderson walks around his desk and leans against it, facing the class.
"Good Morning, kids. I hope you had a great summer and I hope you have finished your summer project. But, before heading into discussion on the same, I believe we have a new student among us." He says and nods at me, telling me to introduce myself. I stand up and head to the front of the class.
"Hi, I am Josephine Quinn and I have joined Raven High today itself." I call out in a confident voice paired with an awkward wave. Despite what I hoped for, whispers break into the room. I hear most of them and they run along the lines of:
'Is she really a Quinn?'
'Is she the daughter of the founder of Quinn Industries?'
'What is she doing here?'
'Is she the new chick with the loaded father?'
"Yes, I am the very same Josephine Quinn you are thinking I am, and I hope we can get past the status of my surname and get along well, based on me, not my surname, might I add." I look at the class and they fall silent. Mr Sanderson passes me an impressed smile and I head back to the seat.
"Now, seeing that Ms Quinn is new to the school and not particularly familiar to the nature of our discussions, how about she starts it up for this time." He looks at the class and they all nod in agreement. Unlike my old school, people here are actually engaging and involved even though they come off as rich snobs. He turns to me and continues. "Ms Quinn, what would you say if told to make a character-judgement of Elizabeth Bennett?"
I start to speak but he interrupts me.
"You stand here in my place and share your views. Once you are done, you answer any questions your fellow students may have." I have to admit, I am impressed with his ways of teaching. This ensures that each and every students' views are taken into account and all of them are engaged. It doesn't take a genius in guessing that that might be the reason this class could be the favourite class of so many of them.
