JOSEPHINE
I walk in through the school gates and walk up to my locker. I shut it after I get the books I need and head to the first class of the day – Arts. The people have already started to come in as I enter the class-room and spot both Rowena and Victoria by our usual table.
"Good morning, girls!"
"Morning!"
"Hey! We were just talking about you."
"Oh yeah? About what?"
"We're going to start a new group project today. So I was thinking us three could pair up."
"Yeah sure, but that is if Ms Moore will let us pair up by ourselves."
"Yeah that is true."
"But she is usually pretty chill about all of this so I guess we can just keep our fingers crossed." Rowena says and before we can say anything else, Victoria cuts in.
"What is my brother doing in this class?"
"Timmy?" Rowena exclaims and looks past my shoulder and I follow their movements to find him standing there talking with Ms Moore. He smiles at her and after a pat on the shoulder she motions him towards us to join the class. His eyes roam across the room to see the faces looking back at him, thanks to his obvious popularity and they settle on me. His eyes visibly soften as I smile at him and walks towards our table. But he gets stopped by one of the so called 'it girls' on his way.
"Tim, do you want to join us? You could help with the art project." He smiles at me and turns to them.
"Why would I want to do that now?"
"Well, friends help their friends. We're friends, aren't we?" she says and steps closely. I look around the room and even Ms Moore is watching the exchange. Timothy leans towards the girl which only makes her think he is about to do something very controversial, which is true but not the way she thinks.
"Umm, over my dead body." He smiles and walks up to me and kisses my cheek. I hide my blush and try to seem casual about it but when I look at the expression on the girl, I lose it. I laugh and the voice rings around the quiet class-room before it fills with laughter as well. The girl looks around in awe, not having ever been on the other side of the rod and she looks red in the face.
"You." She says as she points at Timothy. "You are supposed to date me."
"Too bad I am into her." He replies and points his thumb at me. "I am sorry though. I didn't expect everybody to blow up on it like this!" He shouts after her as she makes a bee-line for the door and walks right out of the class-room. That apparently brings Ms Moore back to her senses as she quiets the class down and gives us our project for the day – 'A Magical Place' – which is supposed to be done over the next week and in pairs of two.
