"Tessa, good morning," Jeff said, coming into the horse barn.

I turned my head over my shoulder, smiling at my boss. "Good morning, Mr. Morgan." I told him, petting a hyper Palomino mare over the gate to her stall. "How are you and the Misses?"

He chuckled as the horse nudged my stomach, dirtying my white tank top, trying to get my attention back on her. "We are fine. How much have you gotten done this morning?"

I kissed the nose of the mare and then walked over to him, lifting my sunglasses onto the top of my head. "I've already fed all the horses and am about half way through letting them out into the pastures."

He shook his head, laughing

He shook his head, laughing. "You never cease to amaze me."

I just smiled at him. I'd been a live-in farm hand for Jeffrey Morgan for about two weeks now. I loved it here and he's even let me have my own horse stabled here too. That was the main reason I took this job.

I have a 5-year-old Friesian gelding. I got him when he was only 6 months old. I named him Tōshirō and even saddle broke him myself.

If you've never owned a horse before, they aren't cheap

If you've never owned a horse before, they aren't cheap. And it's not just feed costs, if you don't own a ranch or farm to house them, then you have to pay boarding fees as well. It can get up to thousands of dollars a month.

Mr. Morgan is letting me board Tōshirō here for free and also his food is free as well. That was a deal I couldn't pass up. Not that there has been anything that I don't like about this place or job. I loved taking care of his fifteen horses every day!

It took me a week to get the lay of the land, and believe me the land he owned was not small. He owns 100-arces and almost all of it is fenced in. There are trails, pastures, riding arenas, you name it. During the summers, he offers lessons and of course trail rides. He also boards horses year-round. Out of the fifteen I am taking care of now, only seven of them are actually his.

"What are your plans for today?" He asked, walking with me to the other side of the barn.

"Hmm," I sung, thinking about it. This was our normal morning conversation. I would wake up and feed the horses, then let them out to pasture. While they were there, I would muck out their stalls and then get a break until noon. He was asking what I have planned for that break. "I was thinking of taking Tōshirō for a ride." I answered, walking into the tack room.
