There is Power in Death

Chapter 10

I'm waken up by someone repeatedly ringing my doorbell. I sit up and slowly walk to the door, still half awake.

"Benji? What's going on?" I ask, yawning.

"Our floor has the day off! We can do whatever we want today! I'm going to a beach in the living world and was hoping you would come with." Benji says. They already have a bag with towels.

"Isn't it too early for this?"

"Dude. It's almost one pm. Did you really just wake up? I'll give you twenty minutes to get ready, meet me in the lobby and bring snacks."

They close the door and I start to get ready. I have a quick shower and make myself some scrambled eggs. I brush my teeth and start to grab some snacks, remembering that I don't have any swim shorts. I teleport to the gift shop in hopes of them selling clothes. 

"Hello? Do you guys sell clothes?"

"Yes, just follow me," a worker says, leading me through aisles that seem to get longer as we walk.

We stop at an aisle with clothes and I see a pair of black swim shorts and pick them out. They are my size so I decide to buy them.

"Is that all?" the cashier asks

"Yes."

"Okay, that will be 10 vildoms."

Oh shoot. I forgot that I didn't have any money. 

"Wait, You're new, right? All apprentices that haven't had a payday yet get a certain amount of items for free. You don't have to worry about money for the next week."

So there is a god. I was scared for a second there, but I've been saved. 

"Great! Thank you," I never know what to say to the cashier.

I walk out the door and teleport back to my room, putting the shorts in my bag. I may as well take my M.I.

I'm about to leave when I hear a knock on my door. 

I open it and see that it's Talan.

"Benji said that you guys are going to the beach. I need your number in case anything happens, though you can probably handle yourself. Give me your M.I."

My M.I. is already in phone form, so I unlock it and show him my number.

He puts it into his phone and walks back to his room. I walk out and close the door, locking the door behind me and walking to the elevator. I would teleport but I don't want to use up my energy. I pick up a coffee at the restaurant and head to the lobby where Benji is waiting for me on a bench.

"Hey Alex! Come on!" Benji bounces off their seat and gets me to follow them. 

We run out the door and through the field, stopping at a large lonely sunflower. Benji scrawls some stuff on it with their finger and a portal opens.

"This is my own exclusive portal. No one except me knows the password to open it. There are only a select few that are able to do this and I was one! Pretty cool, right. We can see if you can do this later! This will lead to anywhere I want to go, even the Underworld! We're going to Horseshoe Bay. I know of this secret spot. Let's go!"

Their enthusiasm is endearing. We go through the portal and land on a beach. There are rocks surrounding us and a cave adjacent to the water. Benji starts setting up a picnic. They seem to have brought a lunch and everything. They lead me to the changing rooms, which aren't too far from our hiding spot, and we both get changed.

When we get back to the cave we go straight into the water. Benji and I swim around for quite a while. When we get out of the water we start eating lunch.

"I made all of this myself! Cooking is a hobby of mine, so I decided to do this. I also brought drinks! Dig in!" Benji explains.

"You cooked all this? That's amazing!"

I start eating a piece of pie, and it tastes fantastic. We eat in silence and then chill out on the beach.

"Hey Alex?"

"Yeah?"

"I know you've only been here for about three days, but is there anyone that you like? You don't have to tell me who it is! I'm just curious, and I want the tea! I'm also a bit of a matchmaker myself!" They start to look smug at the last question.

I think to myself. Is there someone I like? I did like Talan when I met him, but then I got to know him better and it faded.

"I don't think I do. What about you?"

"There is somebody I like, but I don't know if I have any chance with them. They're way out of my league."

"Oh, I see. If you tell me who it is then I'll match you up with them!"

"I can't though. I don't want anybody to know until I'm one-hundred percent sure of my feelings. I haven't known them for long anyways. Hey, did I tell you that I'm finally able to teleport my M.I? It was pretty hard, but I finally did it."

"That's great! I'm happy for you. And as soon as you find out your feelings towards this person, tell me! I promise I'll help you."

"We're acting like cliche school girls," Benji laughs.

"We should probably head back soon. Look, the sun's setting. Let's start packing up."

"Agreed!" They smile, "You look way scarier than you are, unlike Talan, who doesn't look as scary as he is in the rumours."

"Thanks? Is that a compliment?"

"I guess you could take it as one."

We clean everything up, making sure to leave no trace of us being there, and go back to HQ. We both go back to our rooms. Benji gives me the leftovers from lunch and I put them into my fridge. I put my things away and flop onto my bed. As soon as I do, my exhaustion starts setting in. I lay down in bed for a bit before giving up on trying to sleep, and start reading a book. That should help me sleep.I read a few chapters and eventually fall asleep.

1010 words
