The ride takes around half an hour, which is understandable seeing as it's outside of the city. The driver drops us off at park that's surrounded by a large field.
"Well, this is the place. I wouldn't recommend going on the slide, this playground has been her for a while and is starting to fall apart. Other than that, this is the best place to stargaze."
"Thank you, you've been a big help Mr?"
"Ah, you can just call me Reese. Do you think you'll be able to get back on your own? I promised my kids that I would be back by ten."
"We can manage. Thank you for driving us, here's a tip. You deserve it. It would also be appreciated if you didn't tell my dad that I rented a ride. He would be very angry at me if he new I didn't use one of our own."
"Will do. Also, be careful when you make your way back. People have been going missing in the area, and there have been several of there bodies found. If you ever need a ride then call and request me. I'll be going now, you kids be safe."
With that, he drives off. He seems like a nice guy, but there's something off about him. The way that he warned us and then drove off without offering to stick around. He knows something.
"Hey, don't think about it. I feel it too, but this is supposed to be a date. Lighten up. If we're attacked, then we can easily fight and win. Now come with me, Al can stay on the grass."
Benji leads me to the playground and up the ladder to the tower like structure. We lay down on the surprisingly comfortable wood and look up at the clear night sky.
"I haven't actually seen a full starry sky. You could never see the stars in New York. We chose a good night to do this."
"It was your idea though."
"You have a point, even so."
We hold hands and just lie there, breathing in the fresh air of the night.
"You know, Al is kind of the one that pushed us together. He told me that he knew I liked you and that you liked me. I didn't believe him at first, but I guess he was right."
"Really? He told me the same thing. He's a good person."
"I agree."
We lie there longer until Benji speaks again.
"Hey Alex?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
Those words were the best things I have ever heard.
"I love you too."
Al chooses that moment to tell us to go to the grass. They said that it would be comfier and more refreshing.
"Sure."
Benji and I laugh as we go down the ladder. We lay down on the grass beside Al and sit in silence gazing at the sky. Our quiet is interrupted by a noise from the nearby forest and we immediately get up and take out our MIs, waiting to see what it is before transforming them.
"Who's there? Show yourself!" Al demands.
A figure steps out of the forest, but we can't see them properly in the dark.
"I'm surprised you heard me."
I know that voice.
"After all, I have been called a master of stealth."
"What are you doing here?"
Al and Benji haven't realized who it is yet.
"I'm here to see you of course, my dear Alex. I simply could not wait any longer."
"You'd think you would have the sense to stay away after what happened last time."
Benji has realized who it is by now and transforms their MI into a scythe.
"Oh, no need to be so harsh, Alex dear. I'm not here to harm you or your little companions. I just wanted to have a little talk. Alone."
"No. You can leave. You will leave now."
"I will certainly not."
"Julie I will kill you again. I won't hesitate to do so. I don't care what Mr. Silvia says, and I don't care if I get fired."
"I don't use that name anymore. I go by Dylan now, I threw away my old name when I got recruited. I should have told you earlier, But you were too busy making threats."
"I don't care. What are your motives?"
"Well, I was originally here to have fun with the locals, but then heard that you moved here. I have been waiting for the chance to have a fair fight. Now I have that chance. It's quite perfect, don't you agree? We're here at night with nobody around. Come on, face me. Unless you're too scared."
"Do you really think that I would be scared of the likes of you? I surpass you in every way."
"Oh really? I'm pretty sure that I surpass you in physical abilities."
"That's doubtful. I assure you, I will win."
I look up to where he was standing, but he's gone. I sense him behind me before it's too late. He kicks my back and I try to block. I turn around and send a blast of magic at him, but he dodges. He's fast. If we were inside, I would have the advantage. The main thing I can do right now is conceal myself.
I urge my magic to flow around me and create a camouflage. I learned this trick a few weeks ago. It hides my presence as well as well as hiding my body. I essentially become invisible.
"What the hell? Where did you go Alex?"
I see him. He's almost stepping on me, so I take the opportunity an lunge at him. I latch onto his legs and send a wake of electricity through him. He falls to the ground and blacks out. I fall down too, but don't faint. My hands are burning with pain.
"Alex are you okay?"
"I-I'll be fine."
"We have to get you out of here. You need a doctor. We're leaving."
"What about Ju-Dylan?"
"We'll take him with us to HQ. We can sort this out with Mr.Silvia."
"How will we get there?"
"My book. It's in my bag. I'll put in the password."
I'm too weak to move, so i end up just telling them the password. We arrive in HQ and Al calls Talan.
"What happened, and why are you all dressed up?"
"It's a long story."
